WFAA Anchor Gloria Campos to Retire

WFAA veteran anchor Gloria Campos has announced she will retire after nearly 30 years at the Dallas-Forth Worth ABC affiliate.

Along with Campos’ retirement, the station named Cynthia Izaguirre as Campos’ replacement on the 10:00 p.m. news when Campos retires in March. Izaguirre will also anchor at 5:00 p.m.

Campos started her career ar KGBT in Harlingen, TX. She began working at WFAA in 1984 as the station’s first Latino anchor. In 2012, she reduced her hours to only anchoring at 10:00 p.m. so she could focus more time on her family.

Her last broadcast will be Friday, March 7.

WFAA’s Gloria Campos Will Reduce Anchor Duties

WFAA evening anchor Gloria Campos has signed a new contract that will take her off the 6 p.m. newscast beginning this fall, Dallas media blogger Ed Bark reports.

Campos has worked at the Dallas ABC-affiliate since 1984. She currently anchors the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts with John McCaa. Under the terms of her new contract, which continues through February 14, she will anchor only the 10 p.m. newscast, along with “filling in where needed and doing special reports,” according to Bark.

WFAA has not announced yet announced Campos’ replacement anchor at 6 p.m. The changes will take place in September.
