KSTP Photographer Dies After Battle with Cancer

Russ Brown, retired photojournalist for Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP, has died after a battle with cancer.

KSTP reports Brown started at the station in 1972 and retired in May.

“He had such a big heart, a huge heart,” Joe Caffrey, KSTP chief photographer said on the station’s website. “He was always one of the first ones here and the last ones to leave. He loved the TV news business.”

Brown was remembered by current and former co-workers across the country, including Gus Rosendale, reporter and anchor at WNBC in New York.

Anchor Gus Rosendale Leaving KSTP for New York

Anchor Gus Rosendale is leaving KSTP in Minneapolis-St. Paul for a job in New York.

Rosendale, who joined KSTP in December 2010, told Star Tribune gossip columnist C.J. this week that he has landed “an on-air gig in New York.”  Though he wouldn’t confirm where he is going, the word on the street is that he’s joining WNBC.

Both Rosendale and WNBC have not yet returned requests for comment.

Before joining KSTP, Rosendale was the main anchor at WPTZ in Burlington-Plattsburgh.  His final day with the Twin Cities ABC-affiliate will reportedly be Friday.  He expects to start in New York in “a couple of weeks.”

Continuing to Remake Its News Team, KSTP Searches for New Anchor

KSTP in Minneapolis-St. Paul is looking to expand its news team. The ABC-affiliate is currently searching for a new, full-time anchor-reporter.

“As I tell all of the agents, the show depends on the person’s talent. We produce nine hours of news each weekday… with that many newscasts, we have plenty of room for another anchor,” news director Lindsay Radford told MinnPost.

KSTP has remade its on-air roster over the past year.  Veteran sports anchor Joe Scmitt returned to the station at the beginning of 2010, and his arrival was the first of many moves.

Anchor Cyndy Brucato, who returned to KSTP in 2004 after 18 years away, retired at the end of the summer and the station’s 6:30 p.m. newscast is now anchored by Leah McLean and Gus Rosendale, who joined KSTP in December.

The station also added anchor Joy Lim Nakrin and reporter Jennifer Copeland in November.
