KOLD Set to Take Over KMSB Newscasts Tomorrow

As the result of a recently struck shared services agreement in Tucson, CBS-affiliate KOLD will take over production of newscasts on Fox-affiliate KMSB beginning tomorrow, February 1st.

KOLD has already rebranded its website “Tucson News Now” to reflect the joint news operation and, starting tomorrow, the station will produce a one-hour 9 p.m. newscast on KMSB, as well as a new, two-hour weekday morning show that will run from 7 to 9 a.m.

The 9 p.m. newscast will be anchored by Scott Kilbury during the week and Chris Holmstrom on the weekends.  Kilbury currently anchors KOLD’s 4 p.m. newscast, alongside Heather Rowe, and Holmstrom has been a reporter with the station since August. Read more

After Leave Of Absence, Chuck George Returns to Tucson’s KOLD

Chuck George, who took a leave of absence from Tucson CBS-affiliate KOLD after a rambling appearance on the air last month, has returned to his post as chief meteorologist.

George made his first appearance to little fanfare on yesterday’s 4 p.m. newscast, which is co-anchored by Scott Kilbury and Heather Rowe.  “We want to welcome back chief meteorologist Chuck George, who joins us now with a check of the forecast,” Kilbury said. George went on to report the weather on the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

“It worked out well,” KOLD general manager Debbie Bush told Inside Tucson Business. “We actually had a change in weather today.” Bush did not comment on the details of the chief meteorologist’s absence.

On September 6, George Tweeted 33 times in rapid succession about a variety of topics — like Sharon Osboure and the cleanliness of the restrooms at KOLD — before appearing slow and sluggish on the evening newscast. He was unable to finish his weather report, leaving his co-anchors to finish it for him. Read more

KOLD’s Chuck George Taking Leave of Absence After On-Air Rambling, Strange Tweets

Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD announced last night that chief meteorologist Chuck George is taking a leave of absence following an incident of on-air rambling and a string of strange Tweets.

“We want to give you an update tonight on our friend and co-worker, chief meteorologist Chuck George,” Dan Marries, anchor of KOLD’s 6 p.m. news, said on the broadcast last night. “Chuck is taking a leave of absence from KOLD News 13. We hope that Chuck will be back with us in the next six weeks or so.”

George has not been on the air since September 6, when Marries and co-anchor Heather Rowe had to finish George’s forecast after the meteorologist appeared slow and rambling while on the air. That same day, George Tweeted 33 times in rapid succession on a variety of different, and sometimes strange, topics. Read more
