Brian Williams Accepts Invite to Speak at Hillwood High School on WSMV

In a live interview with Nashville NBC affiliate WSMV Monday, “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams accepted an invitation from students at Hillwood High School to speak at their graduation next month.

Inspired by Williams’ commencement address at Elon University last year, the Hillwood High School students created a video inviting the NBC anchor to speak at their graduation. The station hosted a viewing party for students at its Nashville headquarters during Williams’ interview with Jeremy Finley and Jennifer Johnson.

“I wanted to come on and talk to you because their invitation deserved a proper answer, and I wanted to do the right thing,” Williams said. “I feel so apologetic, especially with the students sitting there, apologetic mostly because it’s taken me so long to say: we’re doing this. I’ll be there. It’s on.” Watch:

Dawson, who anchored for the Rochester ABC affiliate for six years, will host “Connections with Evan Dawson” on WXXI from Noon to 2:00 p.m. weekdays.

Dawson’s WHAM colleagues Norma Holland and Jennifer Johnson put together a user’s manual of sorts for Dawson’s radio colleagues.

1. Do not be alarmed by the roof-rattling, throat-clearing sounds he makes in the morning. It will happen often and, yes, you will be shocked every time you hear it.
2. His ‘five o’clock shadow’ takes only minutes to appear. You can almost see his beard grow.
3. Pay attention to his socks. They are more fun than you’d expect. Read more

Video: WSMV Anchor Wonders if Cold Weather Causes ‘Shrinkage’

Throwing to meteorologist Dan Thomas during WSMV‘s 4 p.m. newscast on Tuesday, anchor Jennifer Johnson made an unlikely “Seinfeld” reference.

Johnson and her co-anchor Demetria Kalodimos had been bantering about the shrinking contestants on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” when it came time to transition to weather (video above).
