Jennifer Rigby Named WXIA News Director

wxiaJennifer Rigby has been named news director of the Atlanta NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates WXIA-WATL.

Rigby comes to WXIA from The Weather Channel where she was VP of Live Programming. Before working for TWC, she was a senior consultant at Smith Geiger and had worked as news director at Cox Media stations in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Dayton.

“We’re thrilled that Jennifer is joining the Networks of 11Alive and Gannett,” John Deushane, president and GM, said in a statement. “Her unique, yet integrated, leadership at the station, network, and digital level combined with her broad range of consultative expertise makes her the perfect candidate to lead our ever expanding content offerings.”

She starts Monday, November 24.

Julie Martin Joins WXIA from The Weather Channel

Julie Martin, a meteorologist and field reporter at The Weather Channel, has decided to leave her gig for a weekend morning meteorologist position at NBC affiliate WXIA in Atlanta.

Martin had worked at The Weather Channel since 2006. With a two-year-old and an often traveling husband at CNN, Martin made the move to “pursue a career path that keeps her closer to home,” according to a statement by The Weather Channel’s senior director of coverage and talent, Jennifer Rigby.

Martin’s last day is September 30.

WPTV Meteorologist Kait Parker Joins The Weather Channel

kait parkerAfter three years at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Kait Parker is leaving the NBC affiliate to join The Weather Channel as an on-camera meteorologist.

While she was in Palm Beach, Parker also worked as an instructor for Earth’s Climate Systems, a graduate course designed by the AMS and NASA. Before joining WPTV, Parker worked as the weekday morning meteorologist for WAKA in Montgomery, Ala.

“Kait is a passionate and energetic meteorologist who will make a great addition to our ever-growing team of the industry’s leading names in weather,” Weather Channel president David Clark said in a statement.
