KARE Weekend Meteorologist Leaving Station

sebesta KAREKARE weekend meteorologist Jerrid Sebesta is leaving the Minneapolis NBC affiliate next month to be closer to his family in Sioux Falls, SD.

Sebesta told the Pioneer Press, “This has nothing to do with KARE. I’m leaving on my own terms. I’ve got the best job in the world, but it’s not enough to keep me from going back to be near my family.”

Sebesta started his career at KDLT in Sioux Falls and had a stop at KPNX in Phoenix before coming to KARE in January 2010.

He told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, “It’s just an unbelievable feeling to walk away voluntarily at the peak of my career into something that is best for our family.”

KARE Announces New Weekend Anchor Team

Blake McCoy is joining Minneapolis NBC-affiliate KARE as the weekend anchor, the station announced today.

McCoy begins next month alongside Rena Sarigianopoulos, who has been weekend anchor since 2009. He replaces Eric Perkins, who made the move to sports director at the station last month.

In a statement announcing the hire, news director Jane Helmke described McCoy as a “smart, exceptional journalist eager to call the Twin Cities his home.”

McCoy was most recently a weekend anchor and reporter at KTNV, the ABC-affiliate in Las Vegas. He joins Sarigianopoulos, meteorologist Jerrid Sebesta and Dave Schwartz, who was recently promoted to weekend sports anchor and reporter, beginning September 17.
