Santa Barbara Station Adds AM Meteorologist

keyt_garfaloMeredith Garofalo is joining Santa Barbara, CA, ABC affiliate KEYT as weekday morning meteorologist and multimedia journalist.

Garofalo left WWSB in Sarasota, FL, in February and joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast as community resource director in March. She started her career at WGN in Chicago and has also worked at KOTA in Rapid City, SD.

KEYT news director Jim Lemon told TVSpy Garofalo should be on-air by December 9.

Senerey De Los Santos to Join KEYT

Senerey De Los Santos is joining Santa Barbara ABC affiliate KEYT as weekend sports anchor and weekday MMJ.

KEYT news director Jim Lemon told TVSpy, “I’m thrilled to have her joining the team here at NewsChannel 3.”

De Los Santos comes to KEYT from Fresno NBC affiliate KSEE. She started her career at KSEE as an sports intern in 2006. She was named the weekend sports anchor in 2010.

Paula Lopez Back on Anchor Desk at KEYT

Paula Lopez, the anchor for Santa Barbara ABC affiliate KEYT who went missing in February, will be back on-air tonight.

“We’re thrilled Paula is now able to come back to work,” Jim Lemon, KEYT news director told the San Luis Obispo Tribune. “As a veteran member of the team at NewsChannel 3, it’s good to have her back where she belongs, anchoring and reporting the news up and down the coast.”

Lopez returned home nearly eight hours after being reported missing by concerned family members. Relatives blamed an unnamed medical condition on her disappearance.

She posted the news to twitter over the weekend saying, “Happy to be back on @KEYTNC3 in 48 hours!”

Jim Lemon Named KEYT News Director

Jim Lemon has been named news director of Santa Barbara ABC affiliate KEYT.

“Jim brings our growing news team the experience and dedication that will help guide KEYT as we embark on a new chapter in our history,” said KEYT general manager Mark Danielson. “Under new ownership, KEYT is in the process of launching High Definition Local News, expanding its journalistic resources by adding more reporters and expanding its news-gathering efforts with new offices in Santa Maria.”

Lemon last worked as news director for WITI. He left the Milwaukee FOX affiliate in 2011 after six years there.  He has previously worked at KOVR in Sacramento, KGMB in Honolulu and KSNT in Topeka, KS.

KEYT was recently bought by the News-Press and Gazette which owns stations in Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Missouri, Oregon and Arizona as well as KESQ in Palm Springs, CA.

WITI Names John LaPorte News Director

WITI has tapped John LaPorte to lead its newsroom.  The Milwaukee Fox-affiliate announced today that LaPorte, the station’s news content manager, has been named vice president of news.

He replaces Jim Lemon, who left the station in December after six years as its news director.

Before joining WITI in 2010, LaPorte served as news director at WEAU in Eau Claire, WI.  He also spent several years at Milwaukee NBC-affiliate WTMJ, working as an executive producer and eventually serving for a year as the station’s news director.

“John has many years invested in the news business and the Milwaukee market,” WITI president and general manager Chuck Steinmetz said, in announcing LaPorte’s promotion, “and over the past several weeks I had the opportunity to see just how competitive and compassionate he is about this newsroom and his craft.”

Jim Lemon is bidding farewell to WITI.

Lemon, who has been WITI’s news director since 2005, confirmed to TVSpy this week that he is leaving the Milwaukee Fox-affiliate. His final day will be December 16th.

Before arriving in Milwaukee, Lemon held ND positions in Sacramento and Honolulu. He told Rick Gevers & Associates that he’s leaving because he wants to avoid another Wisconsin winter.

No word yet on who will replace Lemon as WITI’s news director.
