WXIN Adds Kristin Kane as Morning Anchor

kane_croppedWXIN has named Kristin Kane as anchor for the Indianapolis FOX affiliate’s morning news.

On December 9, Kane joins Scott Jones, Angela Ganote, Ray Cortopassi and meteorologists Jim O’Brien and Ron Smiley weekdays beginning at 4:00 a.m.

“Kristin’s Midwest roots and passion for news will be a real asset to FOX59 Morning News,” WXIN News Director Kerri Cavanaugh said in a statement. “She will be an excellent addition to the team.”

Kane comes to WXIN from News 13 in Orlando, FL. She started her broadcasting career at WCBS in New York and at News 12 Westchester in Yonkers, NY. She has also worked at WICU-WSEE in Erie, PA, WSFL in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and KRIV in Houston, TX.

On Live TV, WXIN’s Jim O’Brien Proves He’s Not Scared Of Spiders (Anymore)

In September, a WXIN segment with an exotic animal expert went viral when meteorologist Jim O’Brien, who has a deathly fear of spiders, cut his forecast short and threatened to vacate the studio.

Well, the spider made another visit to  the station yesterday. O’Brien, determined to face his fear, visited a hypnotist, who “methodically and deliberately” worked with the meteorologist to overcome his fear. Read more

“I’m leaving the studio right now,” WXIN meteorologist Jim O’Brien shouted at his “Fox59 Morning News” colleague Ray Cortopassi, as the anchor taunted him with a giant tarantula on-air Thursday. “I’m not kidding!”

After a segment with an exotic animal expert, Cortopassi tormented O’Brien with the spider, causing the arachnophobic weathercaster to cut his forecast short and head for the door (video above). Read more

Indianapolis’ WXIN to Begin Morning Newscast at 4:00 a.m.

Seeing even more potential in the early risers, late shifters, and insomniacs of the Indianapolis area, WXIN will now begin its early morning newscast even earlier. Beginning in January, the Fox-affiliate will begin its day at 4:00 a.m.

WXIN has seen positive audience gains since it expanded its morning news to 4:30 a.m. earlier this year and now it hopes to make an even bigger imprint with a six-hour programming stretch on weekday mornings, from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00.

“We have seen viewers waking up earlier and watching earlier, ever since we moved up our start time to 4:30am,” said Jerry Martin, WXIN’s general manager. It appears that Martin’s objective is to provide enough early morning time to build viewers for the station’s big competition against NBC’s “Today” from 7:00-10:00 a.m.
