An On-Air Meeting Has a Storybook Ending for Lindsay Czarniak and Craig Melvin

ESPN anchor Lindsay Czarniak met her future husband while she was on the air at WRC — literally. When Craig Melvin, who was then an anchor at the NBC O&O, introduced her sports segment, the two had never talked. “I’ve never met you before,” she recalls saying during the newscast in the Washington Post. “Good to meet you!”

The hot topic in the interviews, which ran about eight minutes each, was the increasingly acrimonious negotiations between Obama and congressional leadership as the debt deadline looms.

The interviews were embargoed until 5 p.m. yesterday, but began running on the respective stations on the evening broadcasts. Cox Television owns 11 local stations nationwide and ran Macfarlane’s interview on several different stations.
