Jennifer Rigby Named WXIA News Director

wxiaJennifer Rigby has been named news director of the Atlanta NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates WXIA-WATL.

Rigby comes to WXIA from The Weather Channel where she was VP of Live Programming. Before working for TWC, she was a senior consultant at Smith Geiger and had worked as news director at Cox Media stations in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Dayton.

“We’re thrilled that Jennifer is joining the Networks of 11Alive and Gannett,” John Deushane, president and GM, said in a statement. “Her unique, yet integrated, leadership at the station, network, and digital level combined with her broad range of consultative expertise makes her the perfect candidate to lead our ever expanding content offerings.”

She starts Monday, November 24.

WXIA Hires Anchor from HLN

politan hlnVinnie Politan is leaving HLN to join Gannett’s Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA as morning anchor.

“It is a great pleasure to announce that Vinnie Politan will be the new morning anchor for 11Alive news!” WXIA said in a memo sent to staffers. “Vinnie will be joining the team of Karyn Greer, Chesley McNeil and Jaye Watson the first week of August.”

“Vinnie has been a tremendous asset to HLN over the years,” HLN told Rodney Ho, media writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution who first reported the news. “We thank him and wish him only the best.”

Traffic Reporter Elle Duncan Joins Atlanta’s WXIA

Elle Duncan has joined Atlanta NBC-affiliate WXIA as a morning traffic reporter, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Duncan has previously worked for several local radio stations in the area. She debuted today on the station’s 4:30 a.m. newscast, and will be full time beginning Monday, WXIA general manager John Deushane said.

She replaces Nick Vavas, who is returning to New York, the Journal-Constitution reports.
