Morning Anchor Joy Dumandan Out at WISH?

Just three weeks after denying reports that Joy Dumandan‘s contract at WISH had not been renewed, station management is now refusing to comment on the status of the morning anchor’s employment.

After investigative reporter Brad Edwards was fired from the Indianapolis CBS-affiliate, it was reported that Dumandan, who anchored the 5 to 8 a.m. newscast, had also been cut loose. WISH general manager Jeff White denied those reports, saying the morning anchor was just on vacation. Dumandan reported for the station after White’s denial, but has not been on the air at WISH since January 6.

Dumandan’s absence has been a topic of conversation on the station’s Facebook page, with several viewers inquiring about the morning anchor’s whereabouts. WISH has responded to each of the posts with a one-sentence statement that reads, “I understand you have questions, however it is our policy not to comment on personnel matters.” Read more

WISH GM Jeff White: Brad Edwards Was Not Fired For Financial Reasons

Jeff White, the general manager at WISH in Indianapolis, says reporter Brad Edwards was not fired because his salary was too high.

“I can confirm that Brad was let go, but it wasn’t done for financial reasons,” White told the Indianapolis Business Journal. “We are actively looking to replace Brad and are looking forward to adding to our staff.”

Edwards was dismissed from the Indianapolis CBS-affiliate last week with more than a year left on his contract. He told TVSpy that his dismissal was “as mundane as money.”

White, who would not elaborate on the conditions behind Edwards’ departure, said the station has already begun a search for two reporters who will replace Edwards. He also said Joy Dumandan, another WISH anchor who was rumored to have been fired, is still with the station. She was on vacation last week. Read more

Former WISH Reporter Brad Edwards: ‘My Dismissal Is As Mundane As Money’

Brad Edwards is speaking out on his recent dismissal from Indianapolis CBS-affiliate WISH, saying he was “fired up to serve elsewhere.”

Edwards, who told TVSpy there are many details he won’t reveal “because there are many at an ever-leaner WISH TV I hold dear,” was fired halfway through his three-year contract because his high salary put “too much pressure” on the station’s budget, WISH insiders say.

“My dismissal is as mundane as money,” Edwards said.

Edwards, an award-winning investigative reporter at WISH, was aware of the risk his high salary posed and asked station management if he could interview elsewhere, WISH sources say. He was told he was “safe.”

Edwards told TVSpy that news director Patti McGettigan, who he called “my good friend,” fired him Wednesday morning as “tears clogged her throat.” Read more
