Seven Months After Brain Tumor Diagnosis, KTTV’s Julie Chang Announces Pregnancy

Seven months after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, KTTV anchor Julie Chang has announced she is pregnant with her first child.

“The news couldn’t be better given we were bracing for another medical hurdle. I was told after having my brain tumor removed 7 months ago that my body was traumatized and that conceiving might be a challenge,” Chang wrote on the Fox-owned station’s website. “I was also told that my vision would most likely never restore. I’m blessed enough to say I defied the odds on both fronts.”

Julie Chang Back on KTTV

Julie Chang is back on KTTV after recovering from brain surgery in November.

Chang showed the scan of her brain which revealed the tumor on air. Anchor Steve Edwards described it as the being the size of a clementine.

Chang told Edwards and co-anchors Lisa Breckenridge and Maria Quiban, “To put it simply California saved my life.” Chang said she took up surfing when she moved from New York to California. She said she banged her face on her surfboard, got a CT scan to make sure she hadn’t broken anything and discovered she had a brain tumor.

On set, Chang talked about the surgery and the symptoms she experienced before the tumor was found. She said her eyesight has been the only casualty of the tumor saying, “I’m 100 percent back with the exception of my vision.”

KTTV Anchor Julie Chang Has a Brain Tumor

Los Angeles Local News, Weather, and Traffic

“Good Day LA” entertainment anchor Julie Chang has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, the Fox O&O announced on its morning newscast this morning.

“In the next few days and weeks, the tumor will go, the hair will grow back and I will recover with the warmth you have given me since my first day here on Fox 11,” Chang said in a message to viewers read by Steve Edwards (video above).

The tumor was found by a CT scan that Chang had after a surfing accident a few months ago. She will have surgery this week.

KTTV Anchor Makes Herself a Home in LA

Anyone who works in the TV industry knows that relocation from one market to another is just another part of the job description. KTTV’s new entertainment reporter Julie Chang, in a profile by Daily News Los Angeles, shows how she furnished her new home without draining her bank account.

When Chang recently made the trek from New York to Los Angeles after being hired as the entertainment anchor and reporter for FOX owned KTTV, she decided it would be cheaper to start over rather than paying the high cost of shipping furniture from coast to coast.

While TVSpy is aware the numbers in Chang’s budget would be six months of salary for many new reporters or anchors in smaller markets, the article has some good ideas for finding deals on furnishings.

Chang gave local designer Hillary Thomas and her team a budget of $10,000 to $15,000 with clippings from magazines along with pictures of her old smaller space in New York.  The designer came up with a plan to find furnishings from flea markets, estate sales and discount retailers like Ikea, Cost Plus World Markets, etsy.com and overstock.com, that would fill the space with high-end style at a low-end rate.
