Indianapolis Meteorologist Heading to Boston

gardner_WISHWBZ has hired meteorologist Pamela Gardner.

Gardner comes to the Boston CBS owned station from WISH in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports Gardner had replaced Julie Patterson, who left the station in September. The IBJ says WISH management is concerned about losing employees after the station drops its affiliation in January.

In Gardner’s case, it could simply be a jump to a larger market. Boston is the seventh-largest U.S. media market and Indianapolis is 27th, according to New York-based Nielsen Media Research.

In addition to Patterson and now Gardner, WISH lost its sales director, Julie Zoumbaris, who departed in September to take that same position with WRTV-TV Channel 6. Zoumbaris had been with WISH since 2009.

Gardner joined WISH in November 2011. Before that, she was the morning meteorologist for WTHI-TV in Terre Haute.

WISH Adds 30 Minutes to Morning Newscast

Indianapolis CBS affiliate WISH has expanded its morning newscast, moving the broadcast’s start time up to 4:30 a.m.

“We have seen an increase in viewers’ desire for earlier news, so we wanted to deliver our great Daybreak news product to that audience,” WISH news director Steve Bray said in a statement. “From bringing viewers up-to-date on overnight news, and breaking news, weather and traffic; our team works hard to get our viewers ready for their day ahead with all the information they need.”

The weekday morning newscasts are anchored by Scott Sander and Lauren Lowrey, with meteorologist Randy Ollis and traffic reporter Julie Patterson. The newscasts now air from 4:30 to 7 a.m. on WISH and 7 to 8 a.m. on sister station WNDY, Indianapolis’ MyNetworkTV affiliate.
