Meteorologist Julie Wilcox Says Goodbye to WVEC

Meteorologist Julie Wilcox has left Norfolk’s WVEC after 12 years at the ABC affiliate. Wilcox had been the meteorologist for the weekend edition of 13News Now at Daybreak.

WVEC announced Wilcox’s departure last Wednesday on its Facebook page. The station did not divulge much info on Wilcox’s future plans:

Several of you have asked what Juile is doing next? She is working on a career outside the crazy hours of tv news. She is still part of our family at ABC13 as her husband works with us.

Before becoming a meteorologist, Wilcox had been a reporter and anchor at NBC affiliate WNYT in Albany, NY.

Several furry friends make cameo appearances in her departure video, above.

WVEC’s Joe Flanagan Moves to Weekend Anchor Spot

Veteran news anchor Joe Flanagan will get a new role at the station he has called home for more than 26 years: weekend anchor.

Flanagan, who is currently WVEC‘s daybreak features reporter, will take over the morning anchor slot on the weekends for the Virginia ABC affiliate. He has been with the station since 1985 in a variety of roles, including feature reporter, meteorologist, and evening news anchor.

Tod Smith, WVEC’s president and general manager, said in a press release that Flanagan would be a good addition to the weekend team. “Joe’s presence and experience will be the perfect fit for our viewers on the weekends,” he said.

Flanagan will join meteorologist Julie Wilcox on “Weekend Daybreak.”
