George Severson Named News Director at KMIR

Journal Broadcasting Group has named George Severson news director at KMIR, the NBC-affiliate serving the Coachella Valley in California.

Severson joins KMIR from KOIN, the CBS-affiliate in Portland, where he was an executive producer. Prior to that, he spent 10 years as an executive producer at KTVX, the ABC-affiliate in Salt Lake City.

“I look forward to leading our dedicated news team in producing engaging and relevant newscasts and quality local programming,” Severson said in a statement.

Severson replaces Kate Glover, who left for KNSD in August. She is an executive producer on the morning show there.

Gone as KMIR News Director, Kate Glover Joining KNSD as Executive Producer

Kate Glover, who recently left KMIR after a little more than a year as news director there, is set to join KNSD.

KNSD vice president of news Greg Dawson confirmed the move to TVSpy today, saying that Glover will join the NBC O&O in a couple of weeks and serve as morning executive producer.

“She has a great background as a content person,” Dawson told TVSpy via email. “And her experience as a manager is a real asset. We’re excited to have her join our team. ”

Glover’s past experience includes a decade in D.C., working the assignment desks at WTTG and WRC. Before moving to Palm Springs, she was on the desk at Fox News Channel’s L.A. bureau. As for KMIR, the Palm Springs NBC-affiliate has had trouble holding on to a news director long-term. Glover’s predecessor Jon Fischer also only stayed with the station for a little over a year.

Returning to Palm Springs, Elizabeth Beaubien Joins KMIR as Evening Anchor

After departing KESQ in 2009, Elizabeth Beaubien is set to return to the Palm Springs area as an evening anchor for NBC-affiliate KMIR.

Beaubien was an anchor for KESQ from 2004 to 2009, during which time the ABC-affiliate was honored with local Emmys for its 5 p.m. newscast.  After leaving the station amid a series of newsroom shakeups, Beaubien landed at KNOE in Monroe, LA, where she’s been anchoring the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts.

“We are excited to have Elizabeth Beaubien joining our KMIR6 team,” said news director Kate Glover, in announcing the move. “She is a fantastic anchor who already has a sizeable following here.”

Beaubien will anchor KMIR’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts alongside Gino LaMont. Read more
