Murphy moves to New Orleans from Greenville, N.C., where she is the weekend meteorologist at WNCT. Prior to that, Murphy was a freelance meteorologist at KDKA in Pittsburgh. She has also worked at WQED multimedia.

Murphy begins at WDSU next month.

Koppen, who anchors the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts at the Pittsburgh CBS O&O, suffered cardiac arrest in November. The surgery in March was the last part of repair work for her congenital heart problem, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Beginning next Monday, Koeppen will return to the anchor desk at 6 p.m. She plans to to return to anchoring both the 6 and the 11 p.m. newscasts on May 28.

The interviews lasted about five minutes each and focused mostly on gas prices and energy policy. “As long as gas prices are going up, people are going to feel like I’m not doing enough and I understand that,” Obama told WFTV’s Greg Warmoth. “Ultimately, though, there’s no silver bullet here.”

Shortly after undergoing open heart surgery, KDKA anchor Susan Koeppen reported live from her hospital room, covering a deadly shooting at a nearby psychiatric clinic.

From the vantage point of her hospital room’s windows, Koeppen described the scene outside of the psychiatric clinic, where scores of police officers and emergency workers were navigating the aftermath of a shooting that killed two and injured several others.

“The countdown is on…” Koeppen tweeted on Thursday.  “Heart surgery next week! Yikes! Wish me luck.”

Koeppen, 39, joined KDKA last fall after working as a correspondent for CBS News.  She currently co-anchors KDKA’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

Koeppen took two months off after her cardiac arrest, returning to the KDKA anchor desk at the end of January.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that she expects to be back at work in May following the surgery.

Mike Bothwell

Since 2009, Bothwell has been the director of content and converage at WPXI, the NBC-affiliate in Pittsburgh. Both WPXI and WTOV are owned by Cox Enterprises.

“This is by far an amazing place to work with such hard-working and wonderful people,” Bothwell told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I’m happy to stay with the company.”

Before joining WPXI, Bothwell was the news director at KTVZ in Bend, OR, and assistant news director at KESQ in Palm Desert. He has also worked at WTXF in Philadelphia and KDKA in Pittsburgh.

Koeppen had a pre-existing heart valve condition, according to KDKA. She has not been at the anchor desk at the Pittsburgh CBS-affiliate since November 18.

On Twitter, Koeppen thanked viewers for their well-wishes, saying she is “alive and kicking.”

“On Sunday, while running, Susan suffered a heart problem related to a pre-existing heart valve condition,” the station said in a statement on Tuesday. “It was quite serious, but she is recovering nicely in the hospital.”

During Tuesday night’s 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, KDKA explained the reason for Koeppen’s absence from the anchor desk.

“Susan and her family want to thank everyone for their thoughts and their prayers,” Koeppen’s 6 p.m. co-anchor Stacy Smith told viewers. “We all here at KDKA are just devastated about this news, but of course praying and thinking of her and wishing her a speedy recovery.”

Koppen, who was with a group of friends in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh when she had the heart attack, was administered CPR by a member of her group. A passerby used an external defibrillator from a nearby store until rescue personnel arrived, city police told the Tribune-Review.

Koppen joined the CBS owned-and-operated station earlier this fall. KDKA general manager Christopher Pike confirmed the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor was not on the air on Monday night, but refused further comment.
