KUSA Puts Anchor Choice up to Viewer Vote

KUSA candidatesDenver NBC affiliate KUSA asked viewers to vote whether they wanted reporter Kevin Torres or current anchor Kyle Clark as the next evening anchor.

According to the station, the election was trending on twitter in Denver. Clark beat Torres 364-270 and gets to keep his job. TVSpy didn’t take the time to investigate how the votes were tallied. Though, we did ask KUSA what would have happened had Clark lost. We’ll update when we hear back.

The race came complete with attack ads. After the race, the two candidates released statements. Here’s Clark’s.

“Kevin Torres on the anchor desk would be nothing but a rubber-stamp for Drew Soicher‘s radical agenda. That’s why I have the endorsement of Adele Arakawa and the support of Kathy Sabine who said, ‘Sure. Just stop bothering me. I’m working on a forecast.’ For years, Coloradans have trusted me to make funny faces at the camera following ridiculous stories and patently untrue comments from politicians. We just can’t trust Kevin Torres to do the same.”

You can watch both candidates attack ads after the jump. Read more

“The rules that we operate under are that a station can’t even look over what they shot until they feed it out to everybody,” Torres told me by email. “You can’t post it online, you can’t write about it until everybody in the pool has it.”

While journalists, of course, would like to do their own interviewing, Torres said the pool system is easier on the families. Read more

KUSA Airing Special Series on Dog Behavior as Anchor Kyle Dyer Recovers From Second Surgery

KUSA morning anchor Kyle Dyer underwent her second surgery on Monday to repair facial injuries she suffered when a dog bit her on live TV two weeks ago.

Dyer received 20 stitches during the operation and had 70 stitches removed from her previous surgery, according to KUSA.

“As a result of Kyle’s injuries, all this week we are going to air a special series on canine behavior,” the NBC-affiliate announced on Monday.

The series, from reporter Kevin Torres, will air during KUSA’s 9 and 10 p.m. newscasts. Monday’s segment focused on the best ways for humans to interact with dogs, especially those that are unfamiliar (video inside). Read more
