Shannon Mulaire Promoted to Mornings at WFXT

Shannon Mulaire has been named morning anchor at Boston Fox O&O WFXT.

Mulaire joined WFXT in 2010 as a weekend anchor and weekday reporter. She replaces Kim Carrigan, who was cut loose from the station earlier this month, as Gene Lavanchy‘s co-anchor on the morning newscast.

“I’m delighted that Shannon is joining our morning team,” WFXT vice president and news director Paul McGonagle said in a statement. “Her New England roots and strong reporting skills are an asset to the station and we look forward to the new energy she’ll bring to FOX25 Morning News.”

Kim Carrigan is speaking out on her recent dismissal from Boston Fox O&O WFXT.

“I really hoped for a different outcome,” Carrigan told the Boston Herald. “I’m not going to say that I was shocked, but I’m disappointed. My intention was to stay.”

Carrigan, who joined WFXT in 2004, was told after Tuesday’s morning newscast that she had anchored her last show. A Fox spokesperson said only that Carrigan’s contract was not renewed.

Carrigan, who the Herald calls the “grand dame” of Boston television, said her story should serve as a warning to high-profile, high-salaried anchors in local news. Read more

Morning Anchor Kim Carrigan Out At Boston’s WFXT

Morning anchor Kim Carrigan has been let go from Boston Fox O&O WFXT.

Carrigan, who anchors the 4:30 to 9 a.m. newscast alongside Gene Lavanchy, joined the station in 2004. WFXT sources say she was informed after the show today that this morning’s broadcast would be her last.

A Fox spokesperson told TVSpy Carrigan’s contract was not renewed.

Until a permanent replacement for Carrigan is named, the station will rotate WFXT talent to fill the morning anchor spot.
