Macie McInnis Jepson Returns to Cleveland, Joining WEWS Morning Newscast

Macie McInnis Jepson is returning to Cleveland TV as the new co-anchor of WEWS‘s morning newscast.

The ABC-affiliate announced this week that McInnis Jepson, who worked at Cleveland Fox-affiliate WJW in the 90s, would be joining the station in November.

“Announcing Macie as one of our morning news anchors is another step in strengthening this very important news daypart,” WEWS news director Jill Manuel said in a statement.  “Many viewers already know Macie, and her knowledge of the people, places, and things that matter to Northeast Ohioans will be advantageous to everyone who engages with NewsChannel5 in the morning on-air, online and through our social media platforms.” Read more

KDKA Hires Former CBS Correspondent Susan Koeppen and Former WEWS Anchor Kimberly Gill

KDKA, the CBS O&O in Pittsburgh, has hired two new anchors for the evening newscasts: former CBS News consumer correspondent Susan Koeppen (pictured) and former WEWS anchor Kimberly Gill.

Koeppen, who frequently contributed to “The Early Show” during her time at CBS News, will co-anchor the 6 p.m. newscast with Stacy Smith and the 11 p.m. newscast with Ken Rice beginning September 19. She will also contribute to the station as a consumer reporter.

“It was a really natural pairing for her to come to the station,” KDKA news director Anne Linaberger told the Pittsburgh Business Times of Koeppen, who lives in Pittsburgh with her family.

Kimberly Gill, who was cut loose at Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS in July, begins October 3 as the noon and 4 p.m. anchor. She will anchor both broadcasts alongside Smith. Read more

Cleveland’s WEWS Cuts Morning Anchor Team

Cleveland’s WEWS did not renew the contracts of morning anchors Kimberly Gill (right) and Pete Kenworthy, TVSpy has learned.

“My contract with WEWS was set to expire August 5, 2011,” Gill told TVSpy in an email. “I was told Tuesday, July 5, 2011 that it would not be renewed.”

“Our employment relationships are private,” WEWS news director Jill Manuel told TVSpy in an email. “We do not discuss them in public.”

Gill and Kenworthy have  not been seen on the Cleveland ABC affiliate since July 5. “Good Morning Cleveland” has been anchored by Curtis Jackson since then. However, both anchors have been active on their Twitter feeds, responding to eagle-eyed Cleveland viewers who noticed the two were not in their usual morning seats.
