Shannon Hart

Hart has been the general sales manager for KCWE for the last 11 years. Before coming to KMBC-KCWE, she worked for KSNT in Topeka, KS, KSNW in Wichita, KS, and KMTV in Omaha, NE.

Ferguson will join KCWE on July 1. He is currently the local sales manager for Hearst’s WISN in Milwaukee. He’s also worked for WDSU in New Orleans, WAPT in Jackson, MS, and WXII in Winston-Salem, NC.

Scott McDonnell

“Scott is a very strong reporter who wants the big story,” news director Sherrie Brown said in a statement. “I know our viewers will like him personally and respect him professionally. He is laser focused on doing what reporters should do; tell stories that are compelling and relevant to our viewers.”

McDonnell previously worked at Central Florida News 13 in Orlando and Bay News 9 in Tampa. He has worked at WSEE in Erie, Pa., WSHM in Springfield, Mass. and WFSB in Hartford. He begins at KMBC on March 4.

KMBC in Kansas City airs “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at 11:35 pmCT because of existing contracts to show syndicated programming. The station wraps up its 10pmCT newscast at 10:35 and then airs “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory.” KATV in Little Rock also delays the show to 11:05pmCT in favor of sitcom reruns like “According to Jim” and, in the past, “Home Improvement” and “The Drew Carey Show.”

Larry Moore

“I will continue to anchor the 6:00 p.m. weekday newscast and remain active in supporting our values and high standards for news excellence,” Moore said in a statement. “This will allow me to spend more time with my wife Ruth and our family, while still pursuing my passion to serve Kansas City viewers.”

Moore, who has worked at the Kansas City ABC affiliate since 1972, will begin his new schedule December 3. A replacement anchor has not been named for the 10 p.m. newscast.

Rebecca Gannon

Gannon, who joined KMBC in February, details the decision to leave the television news industry on her website:

Maria Antonia

“As I said at the end of my last KMBC broadcast Friday, I thank the people of our community,” Antonia told Bottom Line Communications. “For 28 years so many families were willing to share their stories, even when it wasn’t easy.”

When KMBC reporter Diane Cho, stepped into the batter’s box to take a few baseball swings during the Kansas City ABC-affiliate’s morning newscast, a lot could have gone wrong. Justin Robinson

Robinson was a weekday morning reporter for KMBC. He joined the station in 2008 from WANE, the CBS-affiliate in Fort Wayne, IN.

Ramos will join KMBC from WIBW on April 23.

The Kansas City ABC-affiliate announced this week that Haley Harrison and Stephanie Ramos will be joining its news team in April.

A native of Kansas, Harrison has spent the last year and a half working as a general assignment reporter at D.C.’s WJLA.  Ramos comes to KMBC from WIBW in Topeka, where she served as a morning anchor and reporter.

“We’re excited to add Haley and Stephanie to our team,” KMBC news director Sherrie Brown said, announcing the hirings.  “Both possess solid experience, strong reporting skills and a tenacious work ethic. We believe they are going to be a great asset to KMBC 9 News.”

Dan Weinbaum

Weinbaum will leave the station later this month to become the Director of Communications for Heart to Heart International, Bottom Line Communications reports. His last day will be January 20.

“Its been a rewarding career,” Weinbaum said. “And there aren’t too many in this industry that can truly say they’ve worked with some of the best reporters and photographers in the business.”

Weinbaum joined KMBC in 2004. Most of his reporting is done for the 10 p.m. newscast.

Bottom Line Communications reports the decision was made to free up KMBC anchors and reporters as the station plans to expand news coverage going into the new year. Station management said the changes will “require a major commitment of time and resources.”

“We understand that our news talent is in great demand, but we must manage this valuable resource to ensure that we consistently deliver the best source for news every day,” KMBC creative services director Paul Tranisi told Bottom Line.
