KXAN Ups Shannon Wolfson to Evening Anchor

wolfson_croppedKXAN has promoted investigative reporter Shannon Wolfson to evening anchor for the Austin NBC affiliate.

Beginning December 2, Wolfson will join Robert Hadlock, chief weathercaster Jim Spencer and sports director Roger Wallace for the KXAN 5, 6 and 10:00 p.m. newscasts and the 9:00 pm. news on CW affiliate KNVA.

“I’ve been so honored and humbled to be part of this team of incredible journalists at KXAN for the last seven years,” Wolfson said in a statement. “I’m beyond excited about this new opportunity and look forward to continuing my investigative reporting, as well.”

Wolfson takes over for Leslie Rhode who announced she was leaving last month. She started at KXAN in 2006 as a reporter and was named named main anchor of the CW news at 9:00 p.m. in 2009. She came back to the station as an investigative reporter in June after a three month hiatus.

KXAN Debuts Morning Newscast on KNVA

This morning, KXAN, the LIN Media owned Austin NBC affiliate, launched a morning show airing on the Austin CW affiliate KNVA.

While KXAN’s morning news currently goes from 4:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m., the newscast on KNVA runs from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and is anchored by the KXAN morning news team of Brian Sanders, Sally Hernandez, traffic reporter Amanda Dugan and meteorologist Mark Monstrola.

“We genuinely like each other,” Hernandez told the Austin American-Statesmans Gary Dinges. “It’s going to be nice to have this extra time together.”

“Our commitment to our audience is growing,” KXAN news director Chad Cross told TVSpy. “We know the busiest time of the morning for many of our viewers is 7:00 to 9:00.  It only makes sense we continue to provide valuable, local coverage of what’s happening each morning that could affect the start of your day.”

In Austin, KXAN Shuffles Morning Anchors

Austin NBC affiliate KXAN is shuffling anchors for the morning newscasts, according to Gary Dinges at the Austin American-Statesman.

Brian Sanders (pictured), who currently anchors weekend mornings, is moving to weekdays. He replaces Robert Maxwell, who will move to sister station KNVA, Austin’s CW affiliate, as anchor of the 9 p.m. newscast. Maxwell joined KXAN in February from KTVX in Salt Lake City.

“I am excited to connect with our growing evening news audience,” Maxwell said in a statement. “I know there are many stories, both significant and relevant to Central Texans that we’ll be investigating in the coming months. And I’m proud to play a role in that process with the talented and dedicated team at KXAN and CW Austin.” Read more
