Sinclair Closes on Titan Station Buy

sinclair_304Sinclair Broadcast Group has closed on its acquisition of the stock and broadcast assets of four Titan Broadcast stations.

The cash deal, worth more than $115 million, also includes Sinclair taking over Titan’s sales and service agreements with two stations.

Sinclair adds FOX affiliate KMPH and CW affiliate KFRE in Fresno-Visalia, CA, FOX affiliate KPTM in Omaha, NE, and FOX affiliate KPTH in Sioux City, IA. Sinclair will operate CW affiliate KXVO  in Omaha, NE, and CBS affiliate KMEG in Sioux City, IA.

According to The Baltimore Sun, “Once all the recently announced deals are finalized, Sinclair will own and operate, program or provide sales services to 162 television stations in 77 markets.”

Sinclair Buys Four Titan Stations, Agrees to Operate Two

Sinclair Broadcast Group has announced it will buy the stock and broadcast assets of four Titan Broadcast Management TV stations and assume Titan’s agreements to provide sales and services to two others.

“We are pleased to bring the TTBG stations into the Sinclair portfolio,” said David Smith, president and CEO of Sinclair in a statement. “They will complement the California properties we are acquiring from Fisher, as well as add to our Iowa presence and give us our first stations in Nebraska. We welcome all of them to the Sinclair group.”

The six stations are in three markets reaching 1% of US TV households. Sinclair put the purchase price at $115.35 million and expects the transaction to close and fund late in the third quarter early in the fourth quarter of 2013 pending FCC approval. Read more

Former Microsoft Employee Named KMEG-KPTH News Director

Aaron Weiss has been named news director of KMEG-KPTH in Sioux City, IA.

“Aaron brings to us a terrific news pedigree, a track record of ratings success and a deep understanding of new and social media,” said Steve Scollard, vice president and general manger of KMEG and KPTH, in announcing the hiring.

Weiss has a unique background that includes significant experience in the software industry, including time working as a program manager at Microsoft.

Most recently, Weiss served as news integration manager at KGW in Portland, where he received several Edward R. Murrow Awards for his work producing breaking news coverage. Read more
