KUSA Investigative Reporter Will Ripley Joins CNN International

will ripley cnnAfter three years at Denver NBC affiliate KUSA, Will Ripley is joining CNN International as a Tokyo-based correspondent.

“Will is a tenacious, dedicated, courageous reporter – exactly what we look for at CNN,” EVP and managing director of CNN International Tony Maddox said in a statement. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the CNN family as we continue to strengthen our coverage in the Asia region.”

At KUSA, Ripley was an investigative journalist and anchor. Before that, he worked at KRGV in Welasco, Texas and KRCG in Columbia, Mo.

Meteorologist Rusty McCranie Joins WFTV

rusty mccranie_304x200Meteorologist Rusty McCranie is joining WFTV in Orlando. McCrainie most recently worked at KOCO in Oklahoma City, where he was the weekend evening meteorologist.

“I will be joining WFTV in Orlando as the 7-9am Mon-Fri Meteorologist,” McCranie tweeted Wednesday. “This opportunity was everything I was looking for.”

McCranie has previously worked at KRCG in Jefferson City, Mo., WDHN in Albany, WLOX in Biloxi, Miss. and WDTV in Clarksburg, W.V.

WTVY News Director Jeff Raker Dies Suddenly

WTVY news director Jeff Raker collapsed and died while at work Friday morning, according to the Dothan Eagle. He was 56.

Raker joined the Dothan, Ala. CBS affiliate in April 2012 as news director. He had previously worked at WTVY as news director from 1997-99.

“I know he was proud of the work being done here and was excited to be a part of the growth of this station. We will miss him and we will do our best to continue to make him proud,” general manager Mike Smith said in a statement.

“In my 20 years of knowing Jeff, many of them working with him, I found him to be the consummate professional,” anchor Reginald Jones told the Dothan Eagle.

Raker is a former news director at KMEG-KPTH in Sioux City, Iowa, KRCG in Jefferson City, Mo., and WYTV in Youngstown, Ohio.

Leo Henning Appointed VP-GM of KOZL-KOLR

Nexstar Broadcasting has announced Leo Henning will be vice president and general manager of KOZL, an independent station in Springfield, MO, effective immediately. Henning will also oversee KOLR, Mission Broadcasting’s CBS-affiliate, which Nexstar operates under a joint operating agreement.

Henning comes from Saukview Media, where he is the president and CEO. Prior to that, he spent five years at Barrington Broadcasting, where he was group head of several stations, including WNWO in Toledo, KRCG in Columbia, WHOI in Peoria, KHQA in Hannibal, WLUC in Marquette and KTVO in Kirksland. Before joining Barrington, Henning spent 33 years at Quincy Newspapers’ Broadcast Group.

“With his local broadcasting expertise, strong client relationships, and dedication to the local communities he has served for many years in the Ozarks and Midwest, we are confident that Leo is the ideal person to lead KOZL’s television and e-media operations,” Nexstar COO Brian Jones said in a statement.

Reporter Courtney Gousman Returns to Chicago

Courtney Gousman has joined Chicago CBS O&O WBBM on a freelance basis, Time Out Chicago’s Robert Feder reports.

Gousman, a Chicago native, made her debut on last weekend’s evening newscasts. She comes to WBBM from KSDK, the NBC-affiliate in St. Louis, where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor.

Gousman has been working in television since 2006. She has previously worked at WEHT in Evansville, IN and KRGC in Jefferson City, MO.

Kermit Miller Celebrates 30th Anniversary at KRCG

KRCG anchor-reporter Kermit Miller is celebrating his 30th anniversary at the Columbia-Jefferson City CBS-affiliate.

“I am in the very enviable position of my job being my creative outlet,” Miller said in a tribute piece that aired yesterday (watch above). “And being in the field is where that outlet really is for me.”
