Kim Chappell Joins WBND as Evening Co-Anchor

Kim Chappell begins next month at WBND, the ABC affiliate in South Bend. She will anchor the station’s evening newscasts alongside Brian Dorman.

Chappell comes to WBND from WTVF in Nashville, where she used her maiden name, Kim Gebbia. She has previously worked for WXII in Winston-Salem and WECT in Wilmington, N.C.

“Kim has spent her career digging up stories that impact the communities where people live,” news director Aaron Ramey said in a statement. “She has a passion for one-on-one interaction with the folks who are affected by the news. I think that shows in her compassionate approach to story-telling.”

Chappell replaces Krista Fogelsong, who left WBND for WBBH in May.

Krista Fogelsong to Mornings, Heather Turco to Afternoons at WBBH

Morning anchor Heather Turco (left) and noon anchor Krista Fogelsong (right) are swapping schedules at WBBH, the NBC-affiliate in Fort Myers, according to the News-Press.

Beginning this week, Fogelsong, who joined the station earlier this month and has been anchoring the noon newscast, will take over alongside Clay Miller on the 5, 6 and 11 a.m. newscasts. She replaces Turco, who will move to the noon and 4 p.m. anchor spot.

“These two moves create a commanding level of experience in news anchor teams across every day part,” news director Darrel Lieze-Adams said in a statement. “Our viewers will only benefit from our depth of experience throughout the day.”

Brian Dorman, Emily Pritchard Promoted at WBND

In the wake of Krista Fogelsong‘s departure from WBND, the South Bend ABC-affiliate is shuffling its anchor lineup.

Weekend anchor Brian Dorman will take over as evening anchor until a replacement for Fogelsong is named. When the station names someone permanent for the 6, 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts, Dorman will take over as morning co-anchor alongside Keitha Nelson.

Multimedia journalist Emily Pritchard will be promoted to the weekend anchor desk beginning Saturday.

“Brian and Emily are a pair of journalists who have worked tirelessly over the past 18 months and are very deserving of these promotions,” WBND news director Aaron Ramey told TVSpy in an email.

South Bend’s WBND Brings in Anchor Krista Fogelsong as the Face of Brand-New Newscast

Krista Fogelsong is leaving KNBN in Rapid City, SD to become the marquee anchor for WBND in South Bend, IN.

WBND is in the midst of building an original newscast from scratch and Fogelsong will be the face of it.  She has been with the KNBN for 2 1/2 years, where she has served as the NBC-affiliate’s main evening anchor.

WBND’s parent company, Weigel Broadcasting Co., plans to invest more than $2 million in building a news facility for the ABC-affiliate.  The station is in the process of hiring a news staff that will include over 30 people.

“It was a tough decision to make because it takes a lot of time and effort to produce a newscast from scratch,” Jeff Guy, WBND’s general manager, told the South Bend Tribune recently, “but we assessed it and decided it was worth doing.”

WBND currently produces an 11-minute 11 p.m. newscast in association with Milwaukee’s WDJT.  Fogelsong will begin anchoring this broadcast as the station prepares to launch its own newscast in the spring.
