Seattle Broadcasters Sue To Keep Retrans Rates Private

The corporate owners of several Seattle stations have sued Click Cable TV to keep the terms of their retransmission agreements with the Tacoma city-owned cable company away from the Tacoma News Tribune.

The broadcasters have said disclosure of the terms would undermine their negotiating positions with the cable company and would eventually result in consumers paying more to watch their stations.

The Bellingham Herald reported the issue over whether the records are public or private came up after Click Cable and Fisher owned station KOMO settled a contentious dispute over retransmission fees.  After the agreement was reached, the News Tribune asked for details, including just how much the new fees were. CBS Appoints New GMs in San Francisco and Chicago: Bruno Cohen to KPIX, Marty Wilke to WBBM

CBS announced two new general managers at its O&Os this morning: Bruno Cohen (pictured) will join KPIX in San Francisco, and Marty Wilke will join WBBM in Chicago.

Cohen replaces Ron Longinotti, whose departure was first reported yesterday by San Francisco media blogger Rich Leiberman. In a statement, CBS said Longinotti is “leaving the company to pursue other endeavors.”

Cohen has been the general manager at WBBM since 2008. He is a Bay Area native who was president and general manager of KOVR-KMAX, the CBS duopoly in Sacramento, for three years before moving to Chicago. In his new role, he will also oversee CBS-owned CW affiliates KBCW in San Francisco and KSTW in Seattle. Read more

Mark Boe Named VP, Station Manager and Director of Sales at KSTW in Seattle

Mark Boe has been named vice president, station manager and director of sales at KSTW, the CW-affiliate in Seattle.

Boe joins KSTW from Tribune Broadcasting, where he was the director of sales for the Pacific Northwest region, overseeing KCPQ-KZJO in Seattle and KRCW in Portland.

“Mark is an incredibly talented and experienced broadcaster,” KSTW general manager Ron Longinotti said in a statement. “We are very fortunate to have someone with the extensive local, regional and national perspective that Mark brings to the table and we know that KSTW will continue to grow and thrive under his leadership.” Read more

CBS Promotes Steve Gahler to VP-GM of Seattle’s KSTW

Steve Gahler has been tapped to lead Seattle’s KSTW.

CBS Television, which owns the CW-affiliate, announced on Thursday that it was promoting Gahler to vice president and general manager.  Gahler had been the station’s director of sales since 2006.

“Steve has done an outstanding job of leading our local operations and growing our business at KSTW, which continues to be one of the top-performing affiliates of The CW,” said Peter Dunn, president, CBS Television Stations. “His leadership abilities, knowledge of the market and strong relationships with clients have served us well and we are pleased to recognize his many contributions to our ongoing success with this promotion.”

Gahler started with CBS as an account executive with WCCO in Minneapolis-St. Paul.  He then moved on to become a sales manager for KOMO, Seattle’s ABC-affiliate.
