ABC affiliate WFAA was the first of the Dallas stations to report the news at 8:47 p.m. The station began continuing coverage at 9:35 p.m. that lasted throughout the night. John McCaa anchored the first several hours, with Ron Corning taking over at 2 a.m. Todd Unger reported from West.

Fox O&O KDFW reported the news at the top of the 9 p.m. hour. Heather Hays and Steve Eagar anchored five and a half hours of wall-to-wall coverage, signing off at 2:30 a.m. Brandon Todd reported from West for KDFW.

KTVT was next at 9:46 p.m. with Karen Borta anchoring. The CBS O&O had continuing coverage from 9:55 p.m. to 2 a.m. with Borta and Jason Allen reporting from West.

NBC O&O KXAS reported the news at 9:48 p.m. Amanda Guerra and Brian Curtis anchored until 12:30 a.m., with Scott Gordon reporting from West.

The investigative reporter for CBS affiliate KENS joins Mireya Villarreal-Gideon who was hired from San Antonio NBC affiliate WOAI Monday.

“I am very excited to be joining a station that is committed to original investigative reporting as well as good story telling,”  New told TVSpy. “(news director) Adrienne Roark‘s commitment to investigative reporting is a big reason why I decided to join her news team”

New has been at KENS since 2007.  He previously worked as a reporter/anchor at Cheyenne, WY ABC affiliate KTWO, Amarillo ABC affiliate KVII and Omaha NBC affiliate WOWT.

A KTVT spokesperson told TVSpy New will begin working as a general assignment reporter on New Year’s Eve.

Villarreal-Gideon, who has been hired at KTVT as an investigative reporter, has been a member of WOAI’s “Trouble Shooters” investigative team since 2008.

She began her on-air career for NBC affiliate KGNS in Laredo, TX as a sports anchor/reporter.  Before working for WOAI, she was a general assignment reporter at ABC affiliate KRGV in Welasco, TX.

A KTVT spokesperson confirmed with TVSpy, Villarreal-Gideon’s first day at the station will be January 2.

Blegen steps into the role formerly held by Matt Parcell, who was promoted to news director at the station last month. At KTVT, Blegen was the executive producer of investigations and special projects.

“We are extremely excited to bring in someone with Lisa’s great investigative and hard news experience,” Parcell said.

The move is a return to Florida for Blegen, who spent 13 years as an investigative and executive producer at WTVT in Tampa before moving to Dallas in 2010.

Gormley, who has been a nightside reporter since he joined the station in 1997, has accepted a job as the director of communications for Time Warner Cable in Dallas. He will sign off from KTVT, the CBS O&O, next Friday.

Keith Garvin

Garvin comes from KTVT, the CBS O&O in Dallas, where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor. He previously worked at WRC, the NBC O&O in Washington, DC.

Garvin replaces Iain Page as 4 p.m. anchor. Page is rumored to be “leaving the station soon to pursue other opportunities,” according to McGuff.

Brendan Higgins

Higgins will be paired with Adrienne Bankert from 4:30 to 7 a.m. beginning June 25. He most recently worked at rival KXAS, where he was the early morning anchor from 2004-10.

“Brendan is well-known and well-liked by local viewers,” KTVT president and general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement. “We believe he and Adrienne will make a strong connection with morning news viewers based on their knowledge, experience and warm personalities.”

Keith Garvin, the current early-morning anchor, will remain with KTVT as a reporter and fill-in anchor, according to Dallas media blogger Ed Bark.

Adrienne Bankert

Bankert joins KTVT after eight years at KCRA-KQCA in Sacramento, where she anchored the morning and noon newscasts and hosted “Common Ground,” a monthly newsmagazine. She begins at KTVT on June 25.

“Adrienne is intelligent and engaging,” KTVT president and general manager Gary Schneider said in a statement. “I think our viewers will enjoy her personality and appreciate her genuine interest in the community.”

A station spokesperson tells TVSpy that Bankert will replace Lisa Pineiro, who has anchored the morning newscast since 2010.

A severe tornado threat in the Dallas-Fort Worth area sent the market’s local stations into continuing weather coverage this afternoon.

After offering short cut-in updates throughout their morning programming, KTVT, KDFW, KXAS and WFAA all began continuing coverage of the tornadoes shortly after 12:45 pmCT. Although each stations had multiple anchors and reporters contribute, the chief meteorologists led the coverage: Larry Mowry on KTVT, Dan Henry on KDFW, David Finfrock on KXAS and Pete Delkus on WFAA.

Courthouse News reports that Corea was paying $2,750 to run each 30-minute episode of “Ask the Lawyer with Tom Corea,” which aired Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon on KTXA.  The lawsuit alleges that after a run of initial success last summer, during which the show reportedly had higher ratings than the midday news, KTVT-KTXA failed to adequately promote the program and also failed to transfer a majority of phone calls to the show over to Corea’s call center. continued…

Kellerman comes to KARK after serving as news director at KTAB-KRBC in Abilene, TX.  Before Abilene, Kellerman worked as the morning show executive producer at CBS O&O KTVT in Dallas and, before that, as an executive producer at KTAL in Shreveport.

The move represents a promotion within Nexstar Broadcasting.  KARK and KTAB-KRBC, as well as KTAL, are owned by Nexstar.

Frank Holland

Holland will anchor the CW affiliate’s 4 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. broadcasts alongside Erin McElroy beginning September 12. WGN — which launched the early-morning broadcast about a month ago — has had Tom Negovan in the anchor chair on an interim basis while the station searched for a permanent anchor. Erin McElroy (formerly known as Erin Mendez) was assigned the 4 a.m. broadcast in April.
