Tania Ortega Joins KTBC From KCEN

Tania Ortega is joining KTBC, the Fox O&O in Austin, as a general assignment reporter for the morning newscast.

Ortega was most recently a reporter and producer for KCEN in Waco. She has also worked as a reporter, anchor and sales representative at KXXV in Waco. Her television career began as an intern for KNSD in San Diego.

“Tania’s energy combined with her extensive knowledge of Texas is great for our expanding reporter team on ‘Good Day Austin,’” KTBC vice president and news director Pam Vaught said in a statement.

Weathercaster Caitilin Espinosa Joins KRIV

Weathercaster Caitilin Espinosa is joining the morning newscast at KRIV, the Fox O&O in Houston. Her first day will be October 14.

Espinosa, a Houston native, comes from KIII in Corpus Christi, where she has been the weekday morning weather anchor since 2010. She has also worked at KVEO in Brownsville and KXXV in Waco.

“I am overjoyed to be returning to my hometown, where my family, friends and heart have always been,” Espinosa said in a statement. “I look forward to joining the talented team at KRIV and can’t wait to give viewers the information they need to get their days started, as well as keeping them informed when severe weather arises.”

Sports Reporter David Nuno Filling In on KTRK

Houston’s KTRK has tapped David Nuno as a temporary fill-in sports reporter, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The station is short-staffed since weekend sports director Tim Melton suffered a stroke in October. Melton has not been on the air since. He told viewers last month that he is “getting better every day,” but no date has been slated for his return to the ABC O&O.

Nuno is a sports host for local radio station KGOW, as well as for Yahoo! Sports Radio. He has previous television experience at KXXV in Waco.

Seth Kovar Joining WDBJ Anchor Desk as Station ‘Beefs Up’ Morning Newscast

Seth Kovar will debut as WDBJ‘s new morning anchor on Monday, as the Roanoke-Lynchburg CBS-affiliate adds more resources to its a.m. newscast.

Kovar comes to WDBJ from KXXV in Waco, where he also worked as a morning anchor.  He’s been working behind-the-scenes at WDBJ since last week.

“Many stations have now recognized the critical importance of the morning block as the newscast that really kicks off the coverage tone for the entire day and, like us, have or are beefing up resources,” WDBJ news director Dan Dennison told The Roanoke Times recently. Read more
