Meteorologist Danny Treanor Returns to Orlando TV

danny treanorVeteran meteorologist Danny Treanor is returning to Orlando television as a freelance meteorologist for WKMG, the Orlando Sentinel’s Hal Boedeker reports:

The invitation to fill in at WKMG was welcome, Treanor said, because he has been friends with chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells for nearly 15 years.

“We live in the same area of town and attend the same church,” Treanor said. “Additionally, I have many friends and former co-workers at Local 6, including Lisa Bell and Julie Broughton, along with producers and photographers.” Treanor called it “a treat to be working with some wonderful friends.”

WKMG viewers will see Treanor for the first time on June 2, when he fills in for Sorrells at 5, 6, 7 and 11 p.m.

Treanor is a former meteorologist for WFTV and News 13 Orlando.

Lisa Bell Named WKMG Anchor

bell wkmgWKMG has named Lisa Bell anchor for its 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. news.

“Lisa has spent the past two years uncovering major stories as a reporter,” Steve Hyvonen, news director for the Orlando CBS affiliate, said in a statement. “She’s one of the smartest journalists I know. In addition to being a top reporter, Lisa is a terrific person and absolutely shines on the anchor desk.”

Bell will co-anchor with Matt Austin.

Former Central Florida News 13 Anchor Lisa Bell Joining WKMG

Lisa Bell, a former morning anchor at Central Florida News 13, is joining Orlando CBS-affiliate WKMG in January.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Bell, who left Central Florida News 13 in July after she was replaced on the morning newscast by Marla Weech, had to complete her contract with the regional cable channel before signing on with another station.

“She will report for the 5, 6 and 7 p.m. news and fill is as anchor wherever we need her,” WKMG general manager Skip Valet said. “She is a familiar face who has become a trusted source of news in our community.”

Central Florida News 13 Shuffles Meteorologists

In the wake of a new morning anchor at Central Florida News 13, the regional cable channel in Orlando is shuffling their weather team, placing two of the station’s meteorologists in new timeslots.

The station swapped Jeff Day (pictured, right), the station’s chief meteorologist, and Ali Turiano, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Day was previously the morning meteorologist, while Turiano handled the weather forecasts for the daytime hours.

Turiano will be paired with Marla Weech, who was named morning anchor last month after the departure of Lisa Bell. Day had previously been paired with Bell, who was with Central Florida News 13 for four years. He will now be paired with daytime anchor Jackie Brockington.

Marla Weech Replaces Lisa Bell As Morning Anchor For Central Florida News 13

Marla Weech, who is a veteran anchor for several stations in the Orlando market, has been named morning anchor at Central Florida News 13, Orlando’s cable news station.

“I can’t think of a better person than Marla to help Central Florida start their day,” said News 13 VP-GM Robin Symthe. “Marla is smart, she’s talented, she’s warm, and she truly cares about our community and our viewers.” Weech replaces Lisa Bell, who left News 13 last week.

Since joining News 13 in March, Weech has been contributing to News 13 as a reporter, covering  the last Atlantis shuttle launch and the Casey Anthony case. Prior to joining News 13, she was an anchor at two other stations on Orlando — ABC affiliate WFTV and CBS affiliate WKMG, who cut her loose in 2008 due to a tough economy.

“I’m excited to be greeting Central Florida every morning,” Weech said. “It’s also wonderful to be part of a team of journalists who work around the clock to make sure our viewers have the very latest news. We’re going to make sure they have all the news, weather and traffic information they need to get their day started right.”
