No, Hurricane Isaac Did Not Hit Southern California

Parts of Southern California are dealing with another heat wave today, but if you watched part of KTTV’s 10 O’Clock news last night, you might have thought Hurricane Isaac had arrived. Anchor Liz Habib wanted to show how big Hurricane Isaac was so she “juxtaposed” the radar on a map of California.

“Just to give you some idea, give you a little perspective, I took this and I juxtaposed it on top of California. If it were here, it would stretch from Los Angeles to San Francisco, just a massive hurricane moving very slowly.”

Yes, massive. Also 1,900 miles away.

VIDEO: Narrating Hockey Highlights, LA Sports Anchor Refers to Puck as ‘the Ball’

Even though the Los Angeles Kings are in the NHL western conference finals, the team has apparently failed to win the full attention of the city’s news stations. KTTV sports anchor Liz Habib tried to will her way through an update on the Kings’ Game 3 victory last week that seemed doomed from the beginning (video above).

In addition to referring to the puck as “the ball,” Habib flubbed the names of two key Kings players–Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty. And then, as observant internet commenters have pointed out, KTTV’s graphics department used the old NHL logo. Read more

KTTV Names Jeff Michael Anchor of 5 p.m. Newscast

KTTV‘s brand-new 5 p.m. newscast, slated to launch next Monday on the Fox owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles, officially has an anchor: veteran KTTV personality Jeff Michael (pictured, left).

Michael has been with KTTV as a reporter and weekend anchor since 1998. He will be joined on the 5 p.m. broadcast — which news director Kingsley Smith has made a top priority — by reporters Liz Habib and Ed Laskos, as well as entertainment anchor Lisa Breckenridge.

The hour-long broadcast, which will feature opinions and analysis on local issues, will follow Anderson Cooper‘s syndicated daytime talk show “Anderson,” which also debuts next week. Chris Lemire, a former Fox News Channel producer, will be the newscast’s executive producer.
