WTXF Debuts New Evening Anchor Team

Last night was the first night on the WTXF anchor desk for Lucy Noland, who joins Iain Page as co-anchor of the evening newscasts at Fox-owned station in Philadelphia. Noland and Page are pictured here alongside Jim Driscoll, the station’s vice president and news director.

The Fox-owned station is undergoing some big changes this year– a new morning anchor, a new set for “Good Day Philadelphia,” and the launch of the weekend morning newscasts, which will debut this fall.

Lucy Noland Named Evening Anchor for WTXF

lucy noland croppedPhiladelphia FOX owned station WTXF has named Lucy Noland evening anchor.

“Lucy is one of the smartest anchors  I’ve ever worked with,” Jim Driscoll, WTXF VP and news director said in a statement. “She brings an energy and passion for storytelling that I believe will truly resonate with our viewers.”

Last week, WTXF evening anchor Kerry Barrett was moved to mornings. Noland will anchor the station’s 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. newscasts.

Noland last worked as an anchor at KNBC in Los Angeles. She has also worked at KHOU in Houston, FOX’s owned stations in New York (WNYW) and Detroit (WJBK), KIMO in Anchorage, AK, KFSN in Frenso, CA, and KGO in San Francisco, and KJEO in Fresno.

Lucy Noland Leaving KNBC in Los Angeles

lucy noland knbcLucy Noland will sign off from KNBC this week, a spokesperson for the NBC owned station in Los Angeles confirms to TVSpy.

“After two years with NBC4 Southern California, Lucy Noland has decided to leave the station to spend more time with her family. We are grateful for Lucy’s steadfast dedication and contributions to NBC4 and wish her the very best as she pursues a new chapter in her life,” a KNBC spokesperson said in a statement. “Lucy’s last day is Friday and a permanent replacement for the noon newscast has not been determined at this time.”

News of Noland’s departure was first reported by FTVLive.

Noland joined KNBC from KHOU in Houston in 2011. She anchored the noon and 6 p.m. newscasts until last month, when she was replaced on the 6 p.m. by Colleen Williams.

Lucy Noland, Robert Kovacik Taking On New Roles at KNBC

Noland, who joined the NBC owned station in Los Angeles in 2011, is no longer anchoring the 6 p.m. newscast. She will be replaced by Colleen Williams, who anchors the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

KNBC spokesperson Terri Hernandez Rosales told TVSpy Nolan will continue to anchor the midday newscast. Speculation about the 6 p.m. anchor changes was first reported by FTVLive.

Weekend evening anchor Robert Kovacik is also getting a new role at the station. He will step away from the anchor desk to be a reporter for the 11 p.m. newscast.

“Robert Kovacik is a valuable member of the NBC4 news team, and one of the best reporters in Los Angeles. Just this year, he was honored by the Los Angeles Press Club as Journalist of the year because of the trust and respect he’s earned from our audience,” Hernandez Rosales said. “It’s that type of reporting we want bring to our viewers at the 11PM newscast Monday-Friday.”

Burglary Suspects Lead Cops on High-Speed Chase in Los Angeles

Los Angeles police chased a car with three buglary suspects through downtown Los Angeles today during the 12pmET hour.

The chase was covered on the noon newscasts of NBC-owned KNBC and Fox-owned KTTV. Kathy Vara and Lucy Noland anchored on KNBC and Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone anchored on KTTV. “This is Southern California, this is Los Angeles, and you know what? We have a pursuit,” Edwards said.

KTTV cut away from the chase before its conclusion to join “Dish Nation.” KNBC stayed with the chase through the noon hour, until it was wrapped up. The three suspects were arrested.

CBS Correspondent Whit Johnson Joining KNBC

Whit Johnson, who has been a CBS News correspondent based in D.C. since 2009, is set to join KNBC as an anchor and reporter.

Johnson will co-anchor the NBC O&O’s new hour-long noon newscast alongside Lucy Noland, in addition to reporting throughout the week for the station’s 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.  His first day is scheduled for September 10th.

“Whit is a dynamic journalist with outstanding storytelling abilities,” said Todd Mokhtari, KNBC’s vice president of news.  “As we expand our noon newscast, Whit’s contribution to our team will further position us to more effectively cover our expansive market and provide in-depth coverage that matters to our community.” Read more

Lucy Noland joins KNBC in Los Angeles, anchoring the station’s midday and 5 p.m. newscasts during the week.

Ken Barlow becomes a weeknight meteorologist at KSTP in Minneapolis-St. Paul, from KXTV in Sacramento.

Chita Johnson joins KHOU in Houston as the 4 p.m. weeknight meteorologist from morning meteorologist at KRCR in Redding, CA. Read more

KNBC Hires Michael Brownlee to Co-Anchor New Midday Newscast

Michael Brownlee is joining KNBC as a general assignment reporter and co-anchor of the station’s new midday newscast, where he’ll work alongside Lucy Noland.

“Michael has the right combination of on-air vitality and journalism experience that is well-known in the greater Los Angeles area,” said Steve Carlston, KNBC’s new president and general manager, in announcing the move.  “He is a dynamic Anchor who will further strengthen our newscasts.”

A native of San Diego, Brownlee comes to KNBC from KCOP, the Fox-owned MyNetworkTV-affiliate in LA. Before joining KCOP in 2003, he worked as a reporter at KCBS. Read more

Welcoming Lisa Hernandez, KHOU Debuts New Set

As KHOU introduced new evening anchor Lisa Hernandez this week, the Belo station also debuted a new set.

KHOU has been aggressively promoting the arrival of Hernandez–who is replacing Lucy Noland after seven years at KABC–with a series of TV spots and a module on its homepage inviting viewers to Like her on Facebook.  After rolling out the red carpet for Hernandez, it only seems fitting that KHOU would also build a new anchor desk.  The above video shows Hernandez anchoring from the shiny new set. Lucy Noland Named Anchor of KNBC’s 12 p.m. News

Lucy Noland, who joined KNBC in July after four years at KHOU in Houston, will anchor the station’s newly-launched noon newscast. Noland is also the 6 p.m. anchor at the NBC O&O in Los Angeles.

The new program, which debuts today at noon, will focus on social media to engage viewers. KNBC technology and social media reporter Makahlo Medina will invite “viewers to actively participate in the coverage of the top stories of the day” via Facebook, Twitter and the station’s website.

KNBC will compete in the timeslot with Fox owned-and-operated KTTV and independent station KCAL, which are the only other stations in the market that have noon newscasts. Read more
