Criminal Charges Against Former WCAX Reporter Dropped After Apology

matt henson_304x200Former WCAX reporter Matt Henson had charges of prohibited acts and lewd and lascivious conduct dropped after he apologized to the alleged victim.

Henson was let go from the Burlington, VT, CBS affiliate after being accused of allegedly groping a woman at a bar in Lyndon.

Caledonia County State’s Attorney Lisa Warren told the Burlington Free Press she dropped the charges after the apology.

“The complaining witness told us from the beginning that all she wanted from Henson was a sincere apology,” Warren said in the email.

Henson and the woman met April 9 in a conference room at Warren’s office. Henson apologized to the woman and she indicated to Warren she “was satisfied with his apology and wanted to move on with her life.”

Warren also said the woman supported the dismissal of the criminal case against Henson.

Henson issued a statement after the charges were dismissed saying he was “glad this year’s long nightmare is over and I can finally move on with my life.” He also thanked those who had supported him during the last year.

Reporter Facing Sexual Misconduct Charges Let Go From WCAX

Matt Henson, a reporter facing sexual misconduct charges stemming from an incident in March, has been let go by Burlington CBS affiliate WCAX.

“We decided to part ways. Matt was very understanding and took it very well. He took it like a pro,” news director Anson Tebbetts told the Burlington Free Press.

Henson has been suspended from the station since he was accused of groping a woman “under her clothing without her consent on two occasions.” He pleaded not guilty to charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and committing a prohibited act in April.

Tebbets said the station is launching early-morning weekend newscasts and needed to fill Henson’s position. “We couldn’t hold the position forever, and it wasn’t being resolved,” he said.

Matt Henson Suspended From WCAX After Alleged Groping Incident

WCAX reporter Matt Henson, 30, has been suspended from the Burlington CBS affiliate after he was arrested early Friday morning for allegedly groping a woman “under her clothing without her consent on two occasions.” The Burlington Free Press has details of the incident:

Police say Henson groped a woman at a Lyndonville bar Thursday night and fought with the bar’s staff. He’s charged with lewd and lascivious conduct, and disorderly conduct.

Police say Henson, 30, of South Burlington groped a woman under her clothing without her consent on two occasions early Friday at the Packing House bar, then followed her outside and “forcibly pinned her against a wall,” the Lyndonville Police Department said in a statement Friday night.

The woman was able to get away, and bouncers restrained Henson until police arrived, according to the statement.

Henson’s blood alcohol content was 0.194 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving, according to the Free Press. He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court on April 22.

In a statement, WCAX news director Anson Tebbetts said Henson has been “put on leave effective immediately as we try to learn more about these allegations.” Henson’s bio has been stripped from the WCAX website.
