Nexstar Fresno Stations to Debut New Studios

kgpe_kseeViewers of Nexstar’s Fresno stations KSEE and KGPE will notice the stations have a new look beginning this weekend.

CBS affiliate KGPE will reveal its new studio Sunday while NBC affiliate KSEE will debut its new look at the end of the month.

The two stations were put under one roof by owner Nexstar after the station group bought both stations last year.

“Our expectations have always been to operate our stations at the highest level but there is a new level of resources and investment,” KSEE-KGPE general manager Matt Rosenfeld told the Fresno Bee. “That’s been the leading complaint and frustration among employees at both stations. There wasn’t a huge influx of investment at all. Now, when we are done, there will be nothing to complain about. It’s the most state-of-the-art group of stations in the Nexstar Group.” Read more

Two Anchors in Two Days, Sidlow Follows Prado Out KSEE’s Door

Faith Sidlow (pictured left), KSEE morning anchor, has been fired one day after Noon anchor Pamela Prado (pictured right) was let go, reports The Fresno Bee.

“It wasn’t a shock,” Sidlow told The Bee. “I had a pretty good idea over the last few months that I could be let go.”

Sidlow had been with the Nexstar owned Fresno NBC affiliate for 28 years. She also teaches journalism at Fresno State and said she does not plan to look for a job in other markets.

Prado, who was let go Monday, told The Bee she felt blindsided, “I anchored yesterday’s noon show and ended it by saying what I say everyday, ‘Thanks for joining me and I’ll see you tomorrow.’” She added, “I would have loved to have had the opportunity to say good-bye to my co-workers and viewers who have allowed me to come into their homes for almost 10 years.” Read more

Nexstar Putting Both Fresno Stations Under One Roof

Nexstar’s Fresno NBC affiliate KSEE will soon have a new housemate. The station group plans to move its newly acquired CBS affiliate KGPE into the building of its newly acquired NBC affiliate KSEE in a consolidation move similar to what they’ve done in other markets.

Matt Rosenfeld, president and general manager of both KSEE and KGPE, told TVSpy, plans are to give both stations a new newsroom, new studios, new sets and high definition by the end of the year. “That’s something we would have not been able to do without Nexstar. Individually, we could not have gone HD,” Rosenfeld told the Fresno Bee. “We will co-locate — my new favorite word — into this building once the build-out is completed.”

According to the Bee, the stations will continue to share reporters but will maintain separate anchor staffs. But what hasn’t been addressed is what happens to the studio staff of both stations after the move. KSEE employees are represented by IBEW and SAG/AFTRA, while KGPE’s employees are non-union. Rosenfeld did not rule out the possibility of layoffs with either the Bee or TVSpy, Read more
