VIDEO: Confused LA Anchor Calls Kings Goalie Jonathan Quick ‘Jonathan Swift’

Apparently lost in a pun, KTTV anchor Christine Devine referred to Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick as “Jonathan Swift” during a recent newscast, while setting up a Stanley Cup update (video above).

The Kings have a chance to win the first Stanley Cup in franchise history tonight, meaning that there are a dwindling amount of opportunities left for LA stations to express their ignorance of hockey.
KNBC Mistakes Sacramento Kings for Los Angeles Kings, Team Calls Out Station on Twitter

Los Angeles currently has three professional sports teams playing in the postseason but, according to a recent KNBC graphic (above), the city only has two.

During KNBC’s 6 p.m. newscast on Monday, as anchor Chuck Henry introduced a story about the Lakers and Clippers competing in the NBA playoffs and the Los Angeles Kings playing in the NHL postseason, the station ran a graphic that included the logo of the Sacramento Kings, instead of the LA Kings. continued…

Miami’s WSVN Confuses Florida NHL Team with Local University

“Incredible comeback on the road for your Florida Panthers,” WSVN anchor Belkys Nerey told viewers during the Miami Fox-affiliate’s 10 p.m. newscast on Tuesday, speaking about the team’s Stanley Cup playoff win. “Even if you’re not a huge hockey fan, you’re going to love the way they pounced tonight.”

Well, it appears like someone in the WSVN graphics department isn’t a huge hockey fan since the station displayed the logo of the Florida International University Golden Panthers instead of the NHL’s Florida Panthers.

After Nerey threw to him for details on the game, WSVN sports director Steve Shapiro quickly clarified that they were indeed talking about the professional hockey team.
