‘Saturday Night Live’: Eli Manning on the Local News

Crotchety local news reporter Herb Welch was back on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. Welch, played by Bill Hader, was out covering the Occupy movement for fictional New York station WXPD and Eli Manning, the show’s host, fell victim to his microphone (video above).

Welch is a dead-ringer for former WNYW reporter Dick Oliver.

Cop Attacks KSTP Videographer

As police arrested protesters at an Occupy Minneapolis rally on Saturday night, one officer attacked a KSTP videographer as he attempted to film the arrests.

In an amateur video (above) of the altercation, a police officer can be seen violently shoving KSTP videographer Chad Nelson, knocking his camera to the ground. Read more

KATU Camera Stolen at Occupy Demonstration

A KATU news crew had a camera stolen while covering an Occupy Portland demonstration this week.

On Monday, Occupy protestors gathered at the Port of Portland, shutting down three of its four terminals.  Amid the demonstration, police arrested a handful of unruly people, including one man who stole a pick-up truck from the scene of a car crash and used it to transport a group on their way to the port.

While details of the theft are scarce, KATU general manager John Tamerlano told TVSpy that the station is working with the Portland police department to recover the stolen equipment, which has been valued at around $25,000. Read more

KOVR Reporter’s First-Hand Account of UC Davis Pepper Spray Incident: ‘I Was Shocked’

KOVR reporter Checkey Beckford and photojournalist Dennis Marin were at the center of a news story that has swept across the country this week–so close that they felt the sting of pepper spray.

Beckford and Marin were positioned right behind a row of seated UC Davis students as a police officer in riot gear methodically dusted them with an orange stream of pepper spray last Friday afternoon. Beckford and Marin had a front row seat to an incident that has had major ramifications for the university and its community, one that has sparked a national debate and become a symbol for the Occupy protest as a whole.
