Bud Brown to Lead Bonten Stations in Texas

Bud Brown has been hired as vice president and general manager of Bonten Media Group’s stations in Abilene and San Angelo, TX. His appointment is effective August 13.

In his new role, Brown will oversee KTXS-KTES, the ABC and CW-affiliates in Abilene, and KTXE, the ABC-affiliate in San Angelo. Previously, Brown was general manager at WWL in New Orleans, a position he has held since 2005.

“Bud Brown will provide outstanding leadership for our Abilene and San Angelo, Texas operations,” Bonten Media chairman and CEO Randy Bongarten said in a statement. “His background not only in general management but also marketing makes Bud an excellent fit for our Company. We are fortunate to be able to attract an individual with Bud’s track record of creativity and success.”

Longtime WJHL GM Moves to Rival WCYB

Jack Dempsey, who has spent the last 23 years as president and general manager of CBS-affiliate WJHL, is moving to Tri-Cities rival WCYB, and WEMT.

Bonten Media Group, which owns the NBC-affiliate in the Tri-Cities area of northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia, and oversees operations at WCYB, the market’s Fox-affiliate, announced today that Dempsey has been named vice president and general manager of WCYB and WEMT.

“We are fortunate to be able to attract so talented a manager as Jack Dempsey,” said Bonten CEO Randy Bongarten, announcing the hiring.  “His deep knowledge of and success in both television, in general, and the Tri-Cities market, in particular, will be a great asset to our company.” Read more
