Regis Philbin Reunites with Rosanna Scotto on ‘Good Day New York’

Regis Philbin (briefly) returned to morning television today as a guest co-host on “Good Day New York,” WNYW‘s morning show. Rosanna Scotto, who was a production assistant for Philbin in 1983, called it “a dream come true” to host the 9 a.m. hour with the television legend, who anchors a daily sports show on WNYW sister network Fox Sports 1.

“The skies may be cloudy but in my head it is so sunny,” Scotto said. “… I always dreamed I would anchor with [Regis] the 9 o’clock hour. Well lo and behold, here we are. It only took 30 years!”

> Update: The 9 a.m. hour of “Good Day New York” beat Philbin’s old show, “Live,” in both the A25-54 demographic and the A18-49 demographic.

Earlier this year, Scotto talked to MediabistroTV about her first big break in TV. Watch it after the jump. Read more

NY1′s Pat Kiernan Gets Another ‘Live!’ Audition

NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan is getting another shot at his dream job co-hosting “LIVE!” with Kelly Ripa.

“LIVE!” is auditioning a rotation of comedians, actors and television hosts to fill the seat of Regis Philbin, who retired from the show in November. Kiernan, who co-hosted once in March, is slated for two more days alongside Ripa — April 30 and May 1.

“There are so many factors in a decision like this that it’s tough to analyze what they’re looking for. So I’m trying not to analyze,” Kiernan told our sister site FishbowlNY. “As with last time, I’ll bring the slightly cheerier version of my NY1 self and they’ll let me know if it’s the right fit for Kelly.”

Video: Regis Philbin Says Farewell to ‘Live’

With a staccato symphony of press cameras snapping photos of the historic event, TV icon Regis Philbin bid farewell to “Live With Regis and Kelly” this morning.

In his farewell message (video above), Philbin said the key to the show’s success is that it makes people happy, “and I’ll never be able to top that.”

Philbin began hosting the show in 1983 with Kathie Lee Gifford. “Live” went national in 1988 and Philbin was joined by Kelly Ripa in 2001.

WNYW’s Greg Kelly Goes After Frequent Critic Joel McHale in Halloween Skit

WNYW’s “Good Day New York” used Halloween as an opportunity to go after Joel McHale of “The Soup” this morning. The Fox O&O’s morning show is often the target of McHale’s mockery so anchor Greg Kelly decided it was time for some payback.

In a Halloween skit, Kelly dressed up as McHale and put on his own version of “The Soup,” which featured a handful of different costumes from Kelly and co-anchor Rosanna Scotto including an impressive turn as Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. Video inside… Read more
