Kurt Knuttson

Knuttson joined KTLA, Tribune’s CW affiliate in Los Angeles, as a technology reporter in 1995. He agreed to provide his reporting to KTLA in exchange for exposure, and within two years, his reports were being syndicated to other Tribune stations.

In 2008, he signed a five-year deal with the station, but two years later, his contract was terminated. Knuttson says he was informed that the deal would be renegotiated, but that he would be paid less. In 2011, he was informed he would no longer appear on the air.

THR has more details on Knuttson’s version of what happened next:

Despite being let go, Knutsson says his name and image continued for some time on the TV station’s websites, but when a viewer clicked on the link, they were shown consumer technology reports by Rich DeMuro instead, that were broadcast from the same studio as CyberGuy, with the same format and style

KTLA and the other stations never announced his departure to viewers. He says they also “manipulated content descriptions (keywords and metatags) in order to produce misleading results from common search engines so persons seeking Knutsson were routed to (DeMuro).” continued…

In San Francisco this morning to cover the unveiling of Apple’s new iPad, KTLA reporter Rich DeMuro had to think fast when his crew encountered techincial difficulties with its satellite truck.  So he reached for his iPad.

As FishbowlLA reports, DeMuro reported live throughout KTLA’s morning show using his iPad 2 and Skype.

“I could get used to the whole iPad live shot thing,” DeMuro tweeted.  “It’s a pretty amazing use of technology.” continued…

It started last Wednesday, when audio of KTLA reporter Rich Demuro asking an intern for a cup of coffee accidentally aired at the top of a report on cell phone bans. It was a common-enough mistake (remember this?), but the Los Angeles station handled it in a very uncommon way.

Instead of ignoring the gaffe, KTLA staffers have turned “Irene the Coffee Intern” into a running joke, featuring her delivering coffee on-air to KTLA anchors and reporters (watch above). continued…

Chris Flanagan heads to Cleveland to anchor WEWS’s 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts.  Flanagan joins WEWS from WFAA in Dallas, where he worked as a morning anchor.

Alicia Roberts joins Cleveland’s WEWS as the morning traffic anchor and MMJ.  Roberts spent five years in a similar capacity at WFLA in Tampa.

Ama Daetz moves home to the Bay Area to anchor weekends for KGO in San Francisco.  Most recently, Daetz anchored mornings for KTXL in Sacramento. continued…

Andy Gobeil joins WPRO Radio-Providence as primary morning talk show host and anchor. Gobeil departs WLNE where he had been morning and weekend anchor for the last year. Prior, Gobeil was a public affairs host for South Carolina ETV and Washington Bureau Chief for Meredith television stations.

Lizabeth Dueweke is promoted to morning anchor at Sinclair’s KOKH in Oklahoma City where she has been a reporter and fill-in anchor for the last year. A Michigan native, Dueweke was last an anchor and reporter at WJRT in Flint.

Josh Bernstein accepts a position to head up the investigative team at “The Daily,” the new high-end, interactive news magazine geared directly to tablets like the iPad. Previously, Josh was an investigative reporter for KNXV in Phoenix.

Justine Waldman is moving across the country to become morning anchor for KRON in San Francisco. Waldman has spent the last year working as a freelance reporter in Boston and Philadelphia. continued…
