Rick Mecklenburg Out at WXMI

Chief meteorologist Rick Mecklenburg is out at WXMI, the Fox-affiliate in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mecklenburg joined the station in May 2012, after filling in for Peter Chan in 2011.

The Grand Rapids Press spoke with WXMI creative services director Travis Henkaline, who confirmed that Mecklenburg is no longer working at the station.

“We’re currently considering our options as far as his replacement is concerned,” Henkaline told The Press writer Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk.

‘The Wind Just Blew Me Over. We’re Gonna Throw it Back to You Guys’

rick mecklenburg falls overThe perils of weather reporting were on full display in Grand Rapids yesterday during Rick Mecklenburg‘s live weather report, which was interrupted by a gust of wind that blew the WXMI chief meteorologist’s chair to the ground.

Mecklenburg made it through most of his report (in which he had to inform viewers of possible snow in the area this weekend) before abruptly falling out of his chair. “Sorry about that! The wind just blew me over,” Mecklenberg said through his laughter. “We’re gonna throw it back to you guys.”

Rick Mecklenburg Joins WXMI as Chief Meteorologist

Rick Mecklenburg has joined WXMI, the Fox-affiliate in Grand Rapids, as chief meteorologist.

Mecklenburg officially joined the station on May 1. He made his on-air debut last week.

Mecklenberg is a former chief meteorologist at WSBT, the CBS-affiliate in South Bend. He filled in on WXMI after the departure of chief meteorologist Peter Chan last year. [via NewsBlues]
