Greg Kelly Returns to ‘Good Day NY’: ‘A Trial Separation, But We’re Probably Better Together’

Seven months after leaving “Good Day New York” for a spot at the evening anchor desk, Greg Kelly made his return to the WNYW morning newscast Friday.

Kelly, who has been anchoring the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts since July, is back alongside Rosanna Scotto after Dave Price asked to be let out of his contract with the New York City Fox O&O.

“You know we love Dave Price. Dave wanted to do other things,” Scotto said at the top of this morning’s newscast. “Dave and I were friends before this, we’ll be friends after this, and we wish him well on his new venture.”

NYC Stations Cover Manhattan Ferry Accident

New York City stations pivoted from the usual morning programming this morning as more than 50 people were injured in a ferry accident in Lower Manhattan.

WABC was the first station to report the news at 9:13 a.m., breaking into “Live! With Kelly and Michael.” WNYW, which was in the last hour of “Good Day New York,” was next at 9:19 a.m. WNBC reported the news at 9:22 a.m., interrupting “Today,” and WCBS was next at 9:24 a.m., breaking into “The Doctors.” WPIX reported the news at 9:43 a.m.

WNYW was the first station with ground shots of the accident at 9:24 a.m. and with a live shot from the scene, with reporter Robert Moses, at 9:37 a.m. All five stations have remained in continuing coverage into the 11amET hour.

WNYW Live Truck Provides Power to Polling Station in Queens

Voting at one polling place in hurricane-ravaged Rockaway Park, Queens, got off to a rough start this morning before the polls were even open. One of two generators that was intended to power lights for the tent did not have any gas early this morning, leaving the pop-up polling station in darkness.

WNYW reporter Robert Moses was reporting from the polling location today. A live truck from the Fox O&O was used to temporarily provide lights to voters in the early morning Tuesday (video above).

In Hurricane Mode, WNYW Calls In Robert Moses

With all hands on deck at New York stations as Hurricane Irene neared the area this afternoon, WNYW called in Robert Moses.

Although it obviously wasn’t that Robert Moses, the controversial figure responsible for building much of modern New York. The name of the Fox O&O’s rookie reporter provided anchors Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto an opportunity to spice up their ongoing coverage of the storm and also share an interesting factoid about WNYW’s Ernie Anastos.

After some banter, a grinning Moses shared some trivia about his namesake: the man responsible for building dozens of bridges and expressways never had his driver’s license. Kelly shot back with a factoid of his own: that Moses cut his own hair. To which Scotto shared this (dubious) piece of information: Anastos, the dapper veteran anchor, also cuts his own hair. continued…
