We’re interested in the men who read the news or the sports headlines, or those who do the weather. Anyone who sits behind the news desk is eligible.

The judging will be based on “perceived sexiness,” location within the US, and the anchor’s social media following. People says the winner will be notified on October 31.

TVSpy is just hoping this eventually leads to a search for the ‘Sexiest Local News Blogger/Writer-Type.’ You know, for a friend.

Now that the has extra time on his hands, Justin Kraemer has unveiled a video spoofing his firing from Wichita NBC affiliate KSNW.

Kraemer re-enacted the pivotal scene in the first “Anchorman” movie when Ron Burgundy famously told San Diego what to do with its collective self.

The video features various celebrity Wichitans…Wichitonians…Wichitaters…residents of Wichita and the voice of uber-anchor Bill Kurtis.

He tweeted the video out explaining what he did with the lemons life handed him with a link to the video:

Ron Burgundy is Everywhere

ron_burgundyAs part of the over-saturation and shark jumping that is Ron Burgundy lately, The Tampa Tribune cut to the heart of his appeal by asking local news types both past and present about the accuracy of Will Ferrell‘s portrayal of the news anchor in the movies “Anchorman” and “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

TVSpy believes part of the appeal of the ridiculousness that is Burgundy is because anyone who has worked in TV news, whether local or national, can probably tell one story that sounds like it was pulled from one of the Anchorman movies.

The Tribune has more:

Burgundy is a silly stereotype that we immediately recognize. It’s an easy parody because there were real versions of Ron Burgundy out there in TV land in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. And some can even be found at anchor desks today.

Just ask any local TV news staffer and you can get a Burgundy-like memory.

“I have been anchoring the real news for about 45 years and have sadly met many, worked with a few and fired one,” says Fox 13 anchor John Wilson of WTVT, Channel 13.

“Ron Burgundy is truly an amalgam of a lot of the old-school ‘I am the news’ men which I have seen in various forms from Baltimore to Greensboro to here,” says reporter Bill Logan of ABC Action News on WFTS, Channel 28. Read more

Everyone’s Favorite Faux Anchorman Ron Burgundy Gets Museum Exhibit

burgundy_newseumYou might want to cancel that big winter trip to Europe and instead fly to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the upcoming release of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

The Newseum in partnership with Paramount Pictures has announced the opening of an exhibit featuring movie anchor Ron Burgundy.

“I’m kind of a big deal, so it’s no surprise that there will soon be a whole exhibit about me in our nation’s capital,” Burgundy wrote on the Newseum’s website. “They literally raided my closet and the Channel 4 News set to put my stuff on display at what they call the Newseum in Washington, D.C. So stop whatever you’re doing and make plans to visit my glass case of emotion, ‘Anchorman: The Exhibit.’

In a video on the site, Burgundy asks, “What the hell is the Newseum?” Then after realizing the Newseum is a museum about news he asks, “What took the Newseum so damn long to give me a call? I mean, come on you knuckleheads.”

The exhibit opens one week from Thursday on November 14. Click here for more info.

‘Anchorman’ Ron Burgundy to Pen Memoir

Legendary movie anchorman Ron Burgundy will tell his story in an autobiography titled, “Let Me Off at the Top! My Classy Life and Other Musings.”

The book will be published by Random House’s Crown Publishing Group which posted the news to its facebook page and will feature Burgundy’s tales about, “the women in his life, his dog, Baxter, and his legendary news team.”

The book will be released in print and digital on November 19.

Burgundy will again grace the screen with his wisdom, refinement and jazz flute stylings in the upcoming sequel to his first film, “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” in “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” opening December 20.

TVSpy is only hoping Burgundy’s memoir will be a fine leather-bound book we can place in our apartment that smells like rich mahogany.

‘Anchorman’ Director Says All Anchors Today Are ‘Ron Burgundy-esque’

In an interview with Salon about the recently announced sequel to 2004′s “Anchorman,” Adam McKay, the director and co-writer of both the original and the upcoming sequel, said that Ron Burgundy is actually more relevant today than he was when the first movie was released.

In his opinion, the character has become “more and more relevant” because news anchors have become more and more like him.

“We talk about all these anchormen on the air now and they’re all kind of Ron Burgundy-esque guys,” McKay told Salon.  “Sadly, the character has gotten more and more relevant as the news has gotten to be nothing more than a ratings-driven profit machine.” Full interview

Jacksonville Newsers Hosting ‘Anchorman’-Inspired Street Fight

Like so many of your fellow local newsers, if you love the cult classic “Anchorman,” then you may want to head to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend.

In the spirit of the film, numerous Jax TV,  print, and radio newsrooms–including folks from WJXT, WTEV-WAWS, and First Coast News–are fielding teams to face off in tomorrow’s News Room Street Fight.  Journos will participate in a charity dodge ball tournament to benefit the Jacksonville Police Athletic League, with special appearances by Jacksonville Jaguars players Eben Britton and Rashad Jennings , and Ron Burgundy himself (sorry, no Will Ferrell – it’ll be a local actor dressed up).

Street Fight co-organizer Melissa Ross, a WJCT-FM anchor and former WOFL anchor, says that “since no one can forget the trident in the ‘Anchorman’ fight scene, an authentic golden trident trophy will be awarded to the winning news team!” Read more
