oscar picKTLA anchor Chris Schauble laughed off the attention he’s been getting over the last 24 hours after his reaction to yesterday’s 4.4 earthquake went viral.

“Has anything interesting happened in the last 24 hours?” Schauble asked at the top of the Los Angeles CW affiliate’s 5:00 a.m. show.

The station filled the morning show with the latest tweets, memes and videos lampooning the anchor’s emergency response.

Here’s a meme with him as one of The Supremes.Bi-uagjCEAEMsEV

LA Reporter Sits Down with Samuel L. Jackson After Fishburne Gaffe

jackson_rubin_makeupThe last time KTLA‘s Sam Rubin interviewed Samuel L. Jackson he mistook him for Laurence Fishburne.

The word on the street was that Jackson was infuriated with the Los Angeles CW affiliate entertainment reporter, some called his reaction a smack down.

You might get a different view of things by watching the latest interview. Rubin sat down with Jackson face-to-face during the press junket for the new Captain America movie.

“I almost wore my ‘I’m not Laurence Fishburne’ T-Shirt,” Jackson said after the two shook hands.

‘I’m Not Laurence Fishburne!’: Reporter Asks Samuel L. Jackson About Super Bowl Spot

It’s a good thing KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin didn’t have Samuel L. Jackson live in the studio this morning after Rubin asked Jackson about his role in a Super Bowl commercial.

“What Super Bowl commercial?” asked Jackson who was live via satellite on the Los Angeles CW station. “You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne!”

Fishburne reprised his role as Morpheus in “The Matrix” movies for a Kia Super Bowl spot.

While Rubin tried to apologize, Jackson was having none of it. “We don’t all look alike!” said Jackson. “We may be all black and famous, but we don’t all look alike!”

KTLA Reporter: Kingsley Smith’s Departure Part of ‘Ill-Advised Dismantling’ of KTTV

KTTV_logoKTLA reporter Sam Rubin takes to Facebook to offer his version of the events that led to KTTV news director Kingsley Smith‘s resignation from the Los Angeles Fox O&O. Rubin, who covers media and entertainment for Tribune’s CW affiliate in LA, writes that “a smarter and stronger executive would have stood up to those giving the orders” as KTTV “went from feeling fun and brash, to heartless and cold”:

The real reason that Smith lost his job is that for the past two years or so he has been a willing and active participant is the ill-advised dismantling of a once popular and important news gathering organization. So after Smith followed orders, fired a ton of people at Fox 11; including very talented and popular on-air types like Mark Thompson and Dorothy Lucey; the ratings are a disaster, the news gathering abilities are destroyed; and guess who gets the blame …. the sap who followed the orders, coming from higher-ups in New York incidentally, to cut KTTV to beyond the bone.

What really matters here, and this is where “executives” always make the biggest mistake, is that television news in 2013 is a personality business. There is simply nothing more important than “feel,” how a show sincerely feels to those who watch it.  Read more

CNN Morning Anchor Surprises Her Former Anchor Team

pereira_KTLAFormer KTLA anchor and current CNN “New Day” anchor Michaela Pereira surprised her former anchor buddies on the set of the CW affiliate’s morning show.

Pereira walked into Sam Rubin‘s single and plopped down a box of cookies from Levain Bakery on New York’s Upper West Side.

The team talked about Pereira’s new job at CNN in New York, how she gets recognized in New York by vacationing Angelenos and how touching down in Los Angeles made her emotional, “we’re coming low over Inglewood and I suddenly was recognizing streets and everything and I found myself getting choked up.” Watch the video after the jump. KTLA Reporter Tweets N-Word?

Veteran KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin is trying to set the record straight after a message was sent from his Twitter account containing the N-word.

Over the weekend, seemingly out of the blue, a tweet was posted from Rubin’s account to Yung Berg (@TheRealYungBerg), a rapper from Chicago. The tweet read: “fake ass n—-.”

Gawker pounced on it and highlighted the fact that Rubin tweeted “OOPS….I will explain later. But, biggest boo boo of the year. For reals,” apparently in response to the errant tweet. Read more

Sam Rubin Can’t Contain Laughter On-Air Over ‘Crusty Buttocks’ in a KTLA Restroom

Sam Rubin could hardly contain his laughter during KTLA‘s morning newscast on Tuesday as he did a special report on toilet humor.  And it was literally toilet humor. Occurring in KTLA restrooms.

“Have you ever gotten one of those surveys from human resources, from the big bosses upstairs [that ask] ‘Hey, how are we doing?’” Rubin asked Los Angeles viewers Tuesday morning. “Now for the first time ever, employees here [at KTLA] are being polled on whether we like the new hand towels in the restrooms.”

The station has installed new paper towel machines in the restrooms and taped a ballot on them in which employees could sign their names in two columns, voting for or against the new devices.

The ballots, being in a restroom and all, have naturally been defaced, with KTLA employees writing in fake names. “Kim Jong Il” was a notable one as was “Crusty Buttocks,” which simply proved too much for Rubin (video here).
