KRIS Adds Paul Alexander as News Director, Mike Gillaspia as Morning Anchor

KRIS, the NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, has hired Paul Alexander as news director and Mike Gillaspia (pictured) as morning co-anchor.

“Both will be great additions to our staff,” KRIS general manager Greg McAlister told TVSpy in an email.

Alexander joins KRIS from KVEO, the NBC affiliate in Brownsville, Texas. KRIS has been without a permanent news director since Sandra Richards was let go last year. Alexander will officially begin at KRIS in August. Gillaspia, who begins in July, comes from KWES in Midland, Texas, where he is the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor. He replaces Dave Froehlich, who is joining KTBC in Austin, as morning co-anchor.

McAlister told TVSpy KRIS has also hired Alan Harwell, a former sportscaster at rival KIII who was let go several years ago due to budget cuts. In his break from television, Harwell has been coaching at two local high schools. Read more

One Interim News Director Out at KRIS Another Interim News Director In

Hollis Grizzard, interim news director for Corpus Christi NBC affiliate KRIS has announced he is leaving the station and has appointed another interim news director to take his place.

Grizzard, a senior strategist for Audience Research and Development, LLC in Fort Worth, TX, appointed Rob Dean as his successor.  Dean will keep the interim title until a permanent news director can be found.

The station has been without a permanent news director since Sandra Richards was let go by Cordillera Communications in November. Read more

Sandra Richards Out as KRIS News Director

TVSPy has been told longtime KRIS news director Sandra Richards is out at the Corpus Christi NBC affiliate.

Tipsters tell TVSpy Richards was let go after a visit by Cordillera Communications executives who blamed poor ratings for her dismissal.

TVSpy has also been told Hollis Grizzard will be the interim news director for the station.  Grizzard is currently a senior strategist for Audience Research and Development, LLC in Fort Worth, TX, which bills itself as,”The Premier Local Media Company.”

Multiple attempts by TVSpy to reach general manager Tim Noble for comment have been unsuccessful.
