NYC Stations Go Live For Bloomberg Press Conference on Hurricane Sandy

As you may have heard, Hurricane Sandy is taking aim at the Eastern Seaboard and has the potential to merge with a strong cold front coming in from the west, putting the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions in danger of being hit by a “superstorm” (or a “Frankenstorm,” depending on how much you want to get into the Halloween spirit) next week.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a Friday afternoon press conference on the threat, calling Sandy a “large, unpredictable” storm and warning residents to be prepared. The five New York City stations all broke into their respective afternoon programming — “Dr. Phil” on WCBS, “Katie” on WABC, “Steve Harvey” on WNBC, “The People’s Court” on WNYW and “Maury” on WPIX — to broadcast the press conference.  Read more

Domenica Davis Out, Steve Villanueva In at WNBC

Changes are coming to the weekend newscasts at New York City O&O WNBC. Meteorologist  Domenica Davis is being replaced by Steve Villanueva, who is currently the morning traffic reporter at rival WPIX, our sister site FishbowlNY reports:

We’re told that Villaneuva leaves his PIX full-time gig for a steady gig at 30 Rock. Along with the weekend work, Villaneuva will produce for main meteorologist Janice Huff. A WPIX spokesperson confirms the move to WNBC. His last day at Channel 11 is expected to be September 7.

Villanueva has been at WPIX, the CW-affiliate in New York City, since January. He also worked as a meteorologist at WNYW, the Fox O&O in New York City, from 2002-06.

In Memory of His Brother, WTNH Meteorologist Steve Villanueva Participates in 9/11 Ceremony

WTNH meteorologist Steve Villanueva participated in Sunday’s 9/11 ceremonies  at Ground Zero in memory of his brother, Sergio Villanueva, a New York City firefighter who was in the south tower when it collapsed.

“My brother, Sergio Gabriel Villanueva,” the meteorologist said during the reading of victims’ names. “Our lives are so much emptier without you, we miss you so much.”

Villanueva has been with WTNH, the ABC affiliate in Hartford-New Haven, since last December. He worked in New York City as a weekend meteorologist for WNYW from 2002 to 2006 before joining WRC in Washington, DC.
