Catherine Garcia Named Primary Anchor at KNSD

Catherine Garcia is the new primary evening anchor at KNSD.  The NBC O&O announced today that Garcia, who has been with the station since 2003 and currently anchors the 4 o’clock hour, will begin anchoring the station’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts.

“Catherine is a strong journalist, a terrific writer and a wonderful person, with a passion for her job and her role in the San Diego community,” said KNSD president and general manager Richard Kelley, announcing the promotion.  “We are fortunate that Catherine is already on our team and are excited she agreed to take on this important role.”

A California native and graduate of USC, Garcia replaces Susan Taylor, who recently announced she is stepping down from the anchor desk.  Her first day as marquee anchor will be Monday, December 5th.

After 15 Years at KNSD, Susan Taylor Says Goodbye

KNSD anchor Susan Taylor announced this week that she will leave the station after more than 15 years to spend more time with her family.

Taylor, who said she is going to “seek out a life that puts me more in sync with my husband and our son,” announced her decision in a statement, which can be read on the station’s website.

“After a lot of long talks with myself and my family, I decided not to extend my contract here at NBC 7,” Taylor said. “This was 100% my decision. The station offered me a fair, generous contract that would have had me here for years to come.”

Taylor anchors the 4, 4:30, 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts at the NBC owned-and-operated station in San Diego. Her last day has not been determined, but the station will “take some time” determining her replacement.
