Reporter Syan Rhodes Promoted to Weekend Anchor at KPRC

SyanRhodesReporter Syan Rhodes has been promoted to weekend anchor at Houston NBC affiliate KPRC. The anchor seat next to Phillip Mena has been empty since Irika Sargent left for Miami CBS-owned WFOR back in May.

KPRC senior executive producer Rick McFarland confirmed the promotion to media blogger Mike McGuff.

Rhodes previously worked at Orlando NBC affiliate WESH as an anchor.

Brett Connolly Named Anchor of WKCF 10 p.m. Newscast

connolly_304With Syan Rhodes leaving WESH-WKCF, Brett Connolly has been named anchor of the 10 p.m. newscast on WKCF, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Connolly joined WESH earlier this year. He will continue to anchor the 5 p.m. newscast on NBC affiliate WESH alongside Martha Sugalski. Before moving to Orlando, Connolly was the morning anchor at WFXT, the Fox-owned station in Boston.

When Connolly joined WESH in February, general manager Jim Carter said he is a “tremendous journalist, and we are thrilled to have a person of his caliber join our anchor and reporting team.”

Syan Rhodes to Join KPRC in Houston

Syan Rhodes is leaving WESH in Orlando for Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.

Rhodes told Orlando Sentinel media writer Hal Boedeker, “There was never a dull moment during my six and a half years here! It’s been an honor to cover the news here as part of the WESH team. Central Floridians really embraced me from the moment I got here, and I’m forever grateful for their love and support.”

She started at WESH in November 2007. She also worked at WMC in Memphis, TN, WBIR in Knoxville, TN and KETK in Tyler, TX.

KPRC confirmed she starts July 7 as a general assignment reporter.

Meredith McDonough to Mornings, Syan Rhodes to Evenings at WESH-WKCF

Orlando NBC-affiliate WESH is shaking up its anchor lineup starting next month, according to the Orlando Sentinel‘s Hal Boedeker.

Syan Rhodes, who anchors from 4:30 to 7 a.m., will shift to the 10 p.m. newscast on WKCF, the CW-affiliated sister station to WESH. Rhodes will be replaced on the morning newscast by Meredith McDonough, the weekend evening anchor.

News director Bob Longo told Boedeker that the move was made so Rhodes could ease the workload of evening anchors Jim Payne and Martha Sugalski, who anchor more than three hours daily between the two stations. The changes will go into effect August 6. Read more

NBC’s Natalie Morales Handles ‘Today’ Affiliate Teases

With Ann Curry‘s exiting “Today,” viewers nationwide have seen some changes on local NBC stations.

“Today” show news reader Natalie Morales has handled the teases for the NBC affiliates for the past two weeks, according to a search of TVEyes. It was first reported last Thursday that NBC executives were preparing a plan to replace Curry before the Olympics, which begin next month.

Several NBC-affiliates reported on their early newscasts that Curry would be saying goodbye to “Today” this morning. Read more
