Nexstar Names New GM at Burlington’s WFFF-WVNY

Nexstar Broadcasting has named Roger Hess vice president and general manager of its newly acquired Burlington, VT, FOX and ABC affiliates WFFF-WVNY effective today.

“As a native New Englander, I am excited to serve the local communities throughout Vermont’s Champlain Valley and Upstate New York’s North Country,” Hess said in a statement. “The hallmark of my 30 years of professional experience in the Hartford and New Haven communities was strong community interaction and service and I am committed to delivering the same to viewers throughout the Burlington and Plattsburgh communities.”

Hess comes to WFFF-WVNY from WTNH-WCTX in the Hartford-New Haven, CT, market. From 1989 until 2012, Hess rose from account executive to director of sales at WTNH after the station merged with WCTX in 2007. continued…

Two at Local Station Groups Named ‘People to Watch’ in 2013

TVNewsCheck is reporting the Media Financial Management Association has named its five “People to Watch” for 2013 with two of the five, NBC Owned Stations chief financial officer, Christine Dorfler and Tim Busch, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Nexstar Broadcasting Group, directly responsible for making sure their local TV station groups turn a profit.

“The biggest challenge is anticipating how people are going to consume my product three, five, 10, 20 years from now,” Dorfler told Janet Stilson editor of MFM’s The Financial Manager magazine. Dorfler’s former boss, Michael Jack, president and general manager of WNBC told Stilson, ““She’s not only an expert in her own area of the business but she’s one of those people who are intellectually curious, who will take the time to find out about other parts of this business.” continued…

Arika Zink Tapped as VP-GM of WEHT-WTVW

Nexstar Broadcasting has named Arika Zink vice president and general manager of WEHT, the ABC-affiliate in Evansville. She replaces Mike Smith, who is retiring.

Zink will also oversee operations at WTVW, which is operated by Nexstar under a shared services agreement. Since 2009, she has been vice president and general manager of Four Points Media’s West Palm Beach television operations, which include WTVX, WTCN and WWHB.

“She brings multi-station management experience and an impressive track record of programming and operational achievements to her new role,” Nexstar COO Tim Busch said in a statement.

Zink’s appointment is effective today.

Robert Bee Named GM of WBRE-WYOU

Robert Bee has been named vice president and general manager of WBRE in Wilkes-Barre-Scranton. In addition to overseeing the Nexstar Broadcasting-owned NBC-affiliate, Bee will be in charge of WYOU, the market’s CBS-affiliate, based on a joint operating agreement between Nexstar and Mission Broadcasting, which owns WYOU.

Bee has spent the last 18 years working in Pennsylvania broadcasting. Most recently, he served as director of sales at WTAE in Pittsburgh. He is replacing Louis Abitabilo, who is retiring.

“Bob has a long-term record of generating exceptional results through his experience and leadership,” Nexstar executive vice president Tim Busch said, in announcing the move. “He brings to his new position an impressive background in all aspects of our business, having led teams that delivered compelling and effective marketing solutions for local and national advertisers.” continued…

Joseph Denk Named VP-GM of WFRV-WJMN As Nexstar Deal Closes

Nexstar Broadcasting’s $20 million deal to purchase two CBS affiliates, WFRV in Green Bay and WJMN in Marquette, MI, was completed today. Joseph Denk will take over as vice president and general manager of both stations.

Nexstar announced the purchase of WFRV and WJMN in April. The deal brings the number of CBS affiliates that Nexstar owns up to 13. ““The acquisition of WFRV and WJMN brings immediate strategic and financial benefits to Nexstar as it expands and diversifies our station portfolio,” Nexstar president and CEO Perry Sook said.

Denk, who replaces veteran VP-GM Perry Kidder at WFRV-WJMN, is a Wisconsin native who is currently the VP-GM at WQRF, the Nexstar-owned Fox affiliate in Rockford, IL.

“Under Joe’s leadership, our Rockford operations have performed very well,” Nexstar executive vice president Tim Busch said. “His years of experience, respect within Nexstar and his Wisconsin roots are all a perfect fit to lead our newly acquired operations in Green Bay and Marquette.”
