Longtime Anchor Jane McGarry Resigns from KXAS After Pleading No Contest to DUI

Longtime KXAS anchor Jane McGarry resigned from the Dallas NBC O&O today after pleading no contest to driving while intoxicated in May.

In a statement to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which was also posted on her Facebook page, McGarry said she was “deeply sorry for making such a terrible mistake.” KXAS said in a subsequent statement that McGarry had decided to resign from the station, effective today.

“We support Jane’s decision and truly thank her for her many contributions to NBC 5 throughout her long and distinguished career,” president-general manager Tom Ehlmann said. “We wish her the very best.” Read more

KXAS to Build New Broadcast Facility in Fort Worth

KXAS is set to begin construction this month on a 75,000 square foot broadcast facility in Dallas, the NBC O&O announced yesterday.

The station expects construction to be completed on the $16 million studio by the end of 2013. The new location will also serve as the home of the Telemundo station in Dallas and smaller business associated with NBC Universal. About 300 employees will work in the new building.

The new facility will be located at the CentrePort Business Park on Amon Carter Boulevard, which is named for the station’s founder. Watch a KXAS segment on the construction inside… Read more

In Dallas, KXAS Announces Plans for 11 a.m. Newscast With Rotating Anchors

KXAS, the NBC owned-and-operated station in Dallas, has announced the launch of an 11 a.m. newscast starting next month. It will be anchored by a rotating schedule of solo anchors from within the ranks of the KXAS news team.

The half-hour newscast, which will launch on September 5 with weekend anchor and reporter Ashanti Blaize (pictured, right) in the anchor chair, is the first newscast in the 11 a.m. timeslot in the market, according to KXAS.

“We see this as an opportunity to provide North Texans with more live, local news in a time period not served by another news organization,” KXAS president and general manager Tom Ehlmann said in a statement. Read more
