News Director Ed Chapuis Out at KTVU

KTVU has announced, news director Ed Chapuis is leaving the San Francisco FOX affiliate.  Chapuis last day will be next Friday, January 18.

“We have an exceptional team of journalists here at KTVU,” said Chapuis.  “I am proud of everything we’ve been able to accomplish. As I leave, I am confident the KTVU Channel 2 News department will continue to thrive and succeed in delivering the highest quality news in the country.”

Before taking over the KTVU newsroom in February 2003, Chapuis was the news director at KCRA in Sacramento.

“Ed Chapuis has been an important part of the KTVU newsroom leadership for the past decade and we appreciate his contributions,” said Tom Raponi, KTVU-KICU vice president and general manager.  “We wish him the very best with his future endeavors.” Read more

Lloyd LaCuesta Retiring After 35 Years at KTVU

Lloyd LaCuesta, KTVU‘s South Bay bureau chief, has announced his retirement from the San Francisco Fox-affiliate.

“I have spent half of my life at KTVU, which makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye,” LaCuesta said in a statement. “But it is time … I need to slow down and truly enjoy life.”

LaCuesta, who has worked at KTVU since 1976, will retire on June 15.

“Lloyd’s reporting has been so strong and so consistent for KTVU for years. He’s been the iron man of our South Bay coverage,” vice president and general manager Tom Raponi said in a statement. “While we are excited for Lloyd in his decision to make this move, his presence on KTVU — in particular the ten o’clock news — will be greatly missed.” Read more

KTVU Debuts New Set and Graphics Package

Bay Area Fox-affiliate KTVU unveiled a new set and graphics package over the weekend.

Created by Broadcast Design International, the new set features dark wood and brushed metal, as well as an 82-inch plasma monitor with touch screen technology.

“Our goal was to contemporize the graphics and set while maintaining the pedigree of the KTVU news brand,” vice president and general manager Tom Raponi said.  “The combination of technology and new home for the Bay Area’s most respected news team will allow us to write the next chapter in our history.” Read more

Longtime KTVU Reporter Bob MacKenzie Dies

Longtime KTVU reporter Bob MacKenzie, who endeared himself to Bay Area viewers with his deft touch for storytelling, died on Thursday following a long battle with cancer.  He was 75.

MacKenzie joined KTVU in 1978 and spent more than three decades working as a feature reporter for the station, where he won 13 local Emmys and dozens of other awards.

“For more than 30 years, Bob’s stories graced KTVU’s newscasts and stood out like gems,” said KTVU news director Ed Chapuis. “His writing was witty and masterful. His expert use of words, paired with natural sound and moving images, evoked a sense of great artistry as much as great journalism.” Read more

Cox Picks Tom Raponi to Lead KTVU-KICU

Tom Raponi has been named vice president and general manager of Cox Media Group’s KTVU-KICU in San Francisco.

Raponi has been the vice president and general manager of KICU, an independent station, since 2001. In addition to his executive duties at KICU, Raponi served as director of sales for KTVU.

“Tom has been instrumental in the success we have enjoyed and I can’t think of anyone more deserving and qualified,” said outgoing KTVU VP-GM Tim McVay, who was tapped to lead Cox’s WSB in Atlanta.

Before joining KICU and KTVU, Raponi served as general sales manager for KMOV in St. Louis.

“I’m excited and honored to be given the responsibility of leading KTVU,” said Raponi. “The station has a long tradition of being a leader in news, programming and the community.  I look forward to helping the station continue with this tradition.”
