Walt Gray Back on Sacramento TV News

Walt Gray announced yesterday he will join Sacramento ABC affiliate KXTV as weekend morning anchor.

“Walt is one of Sacramento’s best known and most respected news anchors,” KXTV news director Jerome Parra said in a statement. “He’s done it all. He is a trusted voice and an accomplished storyteller. He adds even greater depth to News10′s accomplished team of anchors and reporters.”

Gray left the rival NBC affiliate KCRA last year to host his own show on local radio station 96.9 “The Eagle.” He was one of a number of people laid off from “The Eagle” in July.

Sacramento Anchor Leaving TV for Radio

Walt Gray, longtime anchor for KCRA is leaving the Sacramento NBC affiliate to host his own morning radio show.  Gray had been with the station as a sports reporter and later a news anchor for nearly 25 years.

“This offer came a year or two earlier than I was planning on….but…’dinner is on the table and i want to eat while the food is hot.”  Gray told TVSpy. “I have loved every day I’ve walked into KCRA.”

The Sacramento Bee said the news about Gray’s departure was emailed to the KCRA staff by news director Lori Waldon.

Her e-mail announcement said: “Walt has been a tremendous asset to KCRA 3. Now, Walt is taking on a new and exciting challenge in his career. Walt has accepted a new position at Entercom Radio, “The Eagle” 96.9. The station is creating a morning team and they tapped Walt to do it – knowing he’d be the perfect fit.”
