Dunn has anchored WGGB’s morning newscast since 2008. She began her television career in 2006 as a reporter at WAGM, the CBS affiliate in Presque Isle, Maine. In addition to anchoring the morning and noon newscasts, she is WGGB’s medical reporter.

Dunn signs off Wednesday from WGGB. She is rumored to be joining a station in Albany.

Chris Pisano

Pisano was most recently the morning anchor at WRTV in Indianapolis, a job he left in March for family reasons. Before that, he spent seven years at KCTV in Kansas City.

“Throughout my broadcast career, I’d always harbored the hope… dream perhaps… of settling back in New England,” Pisano told Bottom Line Communications. “But for whatever reason, my career brought me to the Midwest where I worked, lived, and raised a family for more than 15 years.”

Pisano will be an anchor and reporter for WGGB.

Brushway was sent to the scene to cover the gas leak for the Springfield ABC affiliate. He was one of 20 people injured in the explosion, which happened shortly after he arrived on the scene.

“I called my producer, I said, ‘hey look, it doesn’t really look like anything’s happening, looks like they’re kind of wrapping it up here, can I come back to the station?’ He’s like ‘yeah, we got what we need,’” Brushway recalled. “No less than five seconds later, boom. Next thing I know, I’m just on the ground, lying in glass. There was just debris falling everywhere, and this is the videographer. In April, the Springfield, Mass. ABC affiliate brought on Dan Williams and Kim Zachary, a husband-and-wife team team of local radio hosts, to anchor the newscast. On Tuesday, the station announced on Facebook that the pair would no longer be at the helm:

After plenty of internal deliberation and your feedback, we’ve decided to steer 40 in the Morning in a ‘newsier’ direction. As such, Dan and Kim will be moving on to other opportunities. We tried to strike a balance between news and fun, but it was a challenge to get those elements to always mesh well. The hourlong newscast will air from 7 to 8 a.m. and will be the lead-in program to the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

The station has not yet announced who will anchor the newscast, which will be the only weekend news on WGGB.

In April, WEYI’s owner, Barrington Broadcasting, tapped news director Kathy Reynolds to oversee sister station WNWO in Toledo, in addition to leading the news department at the Flint NBC-affiliate.  Giffune will assist Reynolds as she splits time between both stations.

On Monday, Mueller started a job as a reporter for Bay News 9, the local cable news station in Tampa.

“God has opened a door and I am thoroughly and humbly grateful,” Mueller wrote in a recent post on his Facebook page.

The new role is a return to Hartford for Valin, who was a reporter at Fox-affiliate WTIC from 2008-10. He was most recently an anchor-reporter at WGGB, the ABC-affiliate in Springfield, MA.

Valin will be the weekend morning anchor at WTNH. He debuted this weekend.

In April, Mueller abruptly resigned from WGGB after someone posted a video on YouTube of him acting erratically while MC-ing a fund-raising gala. Mueller later admitted to having a “few drinks” before the event–which was held in honor of an 11-year-old boy who hanged himself after being bullied at school–and eventually went public about his battle with alcoholism.

Jim was the News Director at WSYR (the Syracuse ABC affiliate) for the past 14 years. In that capacity, he led WSYR to first place in most if not all news dayparts, while winning many awards for news excellence along the way. “At the beginning, I was so unhappy with the person that posted the video but now I’m grateful to them,” Mueller told TVSpy. “They saved my life.”

Mueller has since sought help for his alcoholism and, as of today, he has been sober for 43 days. He has travelled a great distance during those 43 days (as evidenced by the Day 1 photo at right), moving beyond the initial humiliation caused by the YouTube video and focussing his energy on becoming a better, healthier person.

The early wake-up time and long hours required for his job anchoring WGGB’s morning newscast left Mueller, a recent transplant to Springfield, feeling isolated. “The shift was enabling me,” Mueller says. On a typical day, he would wake up at 2:00 a.m. and return home from work around 3:00 p.m., at which point he would spend the rest of the day drinking. continued…

In a story that first broke on TVSpy, Mueller was captured in a video posted to YouTube slurring his speech before a packed house at a fundraiser for the Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover Foundation, which honors the 11-year-old boy who hanged himself after being bullied in school.

Mueller officially resigned from the Springfield ABC-affiliate on Monday, telling TVSpy that he was leaving to seek treatment “for a medical issue that needs immediate attention.”

Mueller now says that the station threatened to fire him if he didn’t quit. continued…

A video uploaded to YouTube over the weekend has caused anchor Paul Mueller to abruptly resign from WGGB, an ABC-affiliate in Springfield, MA.

On Saturday, Mueller served as master of ceremonies at a fund-raising gala for the Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover Foundation, an organization that gives scholarships to local students in honor of the 11-year-old boy who hanged himself two years ago after being bullied at school.

Mueller volunteered to MC the event after the organization reached out to WGGB, which runs a regular series called “Bully Busters” that focuses on bullying prevention. An attendee of the event captured part of a speech that Mueller gave to the packed house in which the anchor appeared to be intoxicated, drawing astonished looks from the crowd as well as a few laughs (video above). continued…
